Welcome to the first adventure in the Spies Below the Moonsea series of Underdark adventures! This adventure is designed to serve both as a stand-alone journey, as well as an introduction to a greater storyline.

Spies Below the Moonsea Header Image

It all starts with a mysterious coin that accompanies a note detailing a time and a place.

Is this a meeting?

Is it friendly?

The only way to know is to go find out.

What the adventurers discvover sets them on a journey to a land of darkness, decadence and deception.

This is a 4- to 6-hour adventure for 5th to 10th level characters.

To aid your journey into the Underdark, the following are included with the adventure:

  • Printable portrait cards with roleplaying tips for important NPCs
  • Reference Maps
  • Sights Below the Moonsea: A Guide to the Zethlentyn Protectorate - this short lore supplement is included with all Zethlentyn-related adventures.
About the Spies Below the Moonsea series

This series of adventures deals with the Zethlentyn Protectorate – a city-state in the Underdark. Adventures in this series can be played without knowledge of the others and in any order.

Ties to the Swords Below the Moonsea saga

This series follows the three previous adventures of the bestselling Swords Below the Moonsea trilogy. While those adventures act as a prelude to this series,  absolutely no player or DM knowledge of them is required to play this one - it is a new series, with new characters and locations.

Some really nice work went into this drow-featuring adventure. For now, I'll just point out that Kayleth's alignment is stated to be NE in the appendix, but from her description and personality, and from the fact that she's a Sword Dancer of Eilistraee, she strikes me as CG (or CN at worst).

Thanks for the catch! We're not allowed to alter the stat blocks as they appear in the appendix for CCCs, so thats the base alignment of that particular creature. Kayleth's alignment is indeed CG. I'll update the document with some alignments in the text for ease of reference.

Ahh, I see. I wasn't aware of that; thank you for the clarification and for resolving to update the document.

I updated it last night. So if you re-DL, it'll have alignments in the NPC/Creatures sections, the first time that each character appears.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
