How The Lich Stole Christmas

ADD TO WISHLIST >

You’re a foul one, Mr. Lich
Your flesh smells like decay
For the crimes you have committed
There will be hell to pay
When the heroes come to save Christmas Day

How The Lich Stole Christmas is a short 3-4 hour one shot holiday adventure for characters of all levels. The encounters include variations for adventuring parties of each tier of play. The story unfolds through melodic rhymes that are certain to get the players into the spirit of the adventure.

Does your party have what it takes to save Christmas?

The door flew wide open, in blew the cold.
A young girl stepped in, confident and bold.
"I escaped from the bad things, I know where they are!
Inside of the mountain, it isn't too far."
Her parents embraced her, she was hugged and was kissed,
But the rest of the children were still being missed.
"Hello, strangers," the girl said. "You look quite brave.
Would you please help rescue my friends held in the cave?"

Christmas Kobold

This adventure includes:

  • Scalable encounters that make this adventure playable by characters of all levels.
  • Kobolds in Christmas hats!
  • The story told in a recognizable style that encourages the players to get in on the fun by creating their own rhymes.
  • Mad snowmen, an original creature presented with four separate stat blocks for each tier of play.
  • An original puzzle for the players to solve in order to accomplish their final goal.
  • Combat encounters that include different enemies, tactics, and mechanics based on tier of play.
  • A unique magic item presented as a reward to parties who complete the quest.

I was wondering what would be a good adventure to send these people on if you finish the tier 3 ending with an archmage as the villain who would be the boss of an archmage?

Ran this on Christmas Eve and we had a blast. I knew my Mom would expect a final 'verse' at the end of the adventure so I prepared one, and I was right, she did! Thought I'd post it here in case anyone else finds it useful.

The group returned heroes, with the children in toe.
In song and in lights the town soon was aglow!
A feast was prepared and all spirits were high,
As the full moon appeared to light the night sky.
Mugs raised with a shout, all sang 'Hip hip hooray!
Three cheers to our new friends who saved Christmas Day!'

Hi, I'm planning on running this for tier 3, but the final battle information for tier 3 + 4 and the conclusion, aftermath and loot are all missing from my pdf download?! Does anyone have any tips?

Upon further looks, I can't see the puzzle info or the kobold stat info for any tier! This really isn't useful at all...

Hi there. This sounds like it's most likely an issue with your download or PDF viewer, since nobody else has reported this issue and we haven't updated the file in years. I'd recommend trying to download it again. And if that doesn't work, maybe update your Adobe Acrobat reader. Hope that helps!

I ran this for a few friends last year on my VTT and they loved it!
Now I have signed up to DM a one shot at a game bar and I am going to run this with dollar store Christmas props on tabletop. I need to bring pregen characters to this event. Does anyone have any ideas / sources? I’m running for 5 players at level 5 (tier 2)

This is probably too late for Allen, but D&D Beyond offers free premade characters and the ability to randomly generate characters as well. That would be my choice for premades for a story: Pick the broad parameters of the premades you want, hit the button a few times, and print off the good ones. (That said, this adventure is very flexible and probably almost any character would work.)

This is amazing! I've grabbed a copy and can't wait to run it for some newbie D&D players at work this year.
How did others explain the light puzzle without giving it away? I understand the solution, but I can't quite figure out how to explain it without making the answer obvious.

Hello! Glad you like the adventure.
For the light puzzle, I'd recommend looking over the "Hints and Tips" section for ideas on how to let the players make skill checks to learn more about the solution. This way, you're not just giving it away, and players seem to be satisfied if they have to succeed on a skill check in order to earn that hint. Hope that helps!

Hi Daniel. Thanks for the purchase. This is the first time I've heard of this issue. Can you try viewing it in a different PDF viewer - maybe within the browser itself, or within Adobe Acrobat - and see if that helps? Or on a different device? If none of that works, you can contact me on Twitter ( @AgentJaspor) and I'll get you a link to a fresh version.

I just bought this and plan to run it with my family for Christmas. I remade Appendix C. The Cave, however which I'd share but I dont see if it's possible to post an image. Thought more people might like an alternate map. But that aside, I can't wait to run this! I've been reading through it and it seems very fun for my family that has no experience with DnD, as well as an easy one-shot to help me learn the ins and outs of Foundry vtt

I just finished running this for 3 kids (aged 8-9) and one adult and it was an absolute blast. I've also been running my son through LMoP and he said this was much more fun! It's got a really nice balance of serious combat and serious silliness. The only real complaint I have is that the map doesn't really make much sense. But I just found something online and made it work for myself. I'll definitely be looking for more adventures from these folks.

Just bought it and I'm super excited to play this with some friends that I'm trying to introduce to D&D with a special christmas one-shot.

Just one question: I know this game has different tiers for different levels of adventurers, but to make it balanced within these tiers, what size of a group was it thought for? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the purchase! The encounters are balanced for a party of 4-5 characters. If you have fewer, take away a creature. If you have more, add a creature of the same type.

Enjoy the adventure!

I don't understand the door puzzle, I can't see a way for the players to even figure out there is a puzzle let alone solve it, even knowing the solution I have no idea how i'd go about solving it, could someone who understands please explain how it works.

Hi Max.
The section entitled "The Solution" explains it in great detail. The short version is there are two patterns interwoven (every other bulb) and there is ONE bulb that doesn't fit the pattern. The "Hints and Tips" section should help nudge the players in the right direction if they are struggling to figure it out. Hope that helps!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
