It's time to act like a real dragon! Unleash your breath weapon, fight with claw and fang in our 5th edition D&D Forgotten Realms adventure for evil dragon characters!

Year Of Rogue Dragons is a D&D 5e Forgotten Realms adventure module designed for evil dragon characters, set in 1373 DR during the Dracorage.

Explore the wastes of Thar, feed, fight and scheme like a dragon and survive in the harshest period for all of dragonkind on Faerun!

The module features 9 full-color dungeon maps, a complete map of Thar, over a dozen full-page color illustrations and 21 unique NPC and monster stat blocks including old favorites like:

- the Zhentarim Skymage

- the Dragonflesh Golem

- and the Wearer Of Purple and their Initiate Cult Wizards.

The adventure module has three main chapters, which all have different goals and place in the story as a whole.

Chapter 1. introduces the players to the setting and the life of wyrmling dragons while experiencing the ongoing Dracorage. This chapter aims to introduce the life of dragons, the surrounding lands, and creatures inhabiting Thar through some seemingly random encounters.

Chapter 2. has three subsections in which the motives and goals of each faction will be revealed as they each present three different quests to the players, which they might take, refuse, or use against them. Getting involved with these factions also lets the players collect every piece of information needed to lead them to a solution that rids them of their enemies, all in one single daring and grandiose final event.

Chapter 3. is the climax of the adventure where the players recover the key element that can save them from multiple threats. They will have several options to use it, depending on which factions they made their enemies and whom they want to eliminate.

Year Of Rogue Dragons was recommended by Richard Lee Byers, author of the original Year Of Rogue Dragons novel trilogy. Thank you Mr. Byers!

Does anyone know how to open the files? I downloaded and unzipped them, but there is no way to open the files on my computer.

No pins, no grids. Requires a lot of prep linking the encounters and setting up pins for each area.

Might be that I messed up loading it, but if you get the module expect it to require some work before you can run it. I reckon it will take about half the time I needed to convert the pdf for use in roll 20.

If i'm mistaken im sure Gabor will correct me below.

Hi Robin! You are right, I have not added the monsters to the map because I felt like leaving this to the DM. This was actually the first time I used FG, and I'm sure I'm missing most of the skills needed, also don't have the necessary tokens... I'm sorry if this feels like a letdown. I hope you and your players will still enjoy the adventure.

Hi!

I understand why, and I appreciate that some of the work has been done in porting it to FG. Its a lot of work just to do that!

In leaving this review I just wish to inform the rest of the community that it is not a ready-to-run adventure, however, it has not been described as such either.

Thank you for making this module, I'm sure we will enjoy it!

Do I have to cut the image of the maps to then stretch in Roll20? Also nothing of the Fantasy Grounds loads for me. All I got was a video that can't be played, and decal that can't load.

But most importantly, where are these maps?

Hi Patrick! I think you can export or save the images from the FG module, but I'm not really sure how that works exactly. The load malfunction is really strange, the module should load normally and there are no videos in the FG compiled files. Are you sure you are loading it right? You can't load the FG module into Roll20, though I guess this is not what you have tried. Please drop me a mail to info@elderbrain.com and I will help you out with the maps separately if you can't sort it out.

Hi! I bought the pdf. My friends and I play on Roll 20. Is this some premade token and bigger size map that could be used on Roll20 or is it just packaged for FantasyGround? I would really like the high definition map that I won't need to stretch for Roll20 and I wanted to know if this could help or if I should buy the map pack?

Hey Simon! There's a link to the high definition maps on the credits page. You can dl them from there, it's over 1 gb in size. Have fun and please let me know here or on my social sites how the adventure went for you and your team! Cheers!

Thanks! I didn't see that! From what I've read, it looks amazing. I'm planning to "surprise" them with the theme at the beginning ot the game. Knowing them, pretty sure they'll love the idea! I'll tell you how it goes!

I'm considering getting this for Fantasy Grounds Unity, which I have to run because some of my players are using Catalina on their Macs. Will this module run in the current state of Unity?

Thanks for considering choosing my module Philip! Unfortunately I have no information on whether the new Unity based FG support their old formats. I would presume yes but it might worth asking them about it. Cheers and stay safe!

Anytime! We've had to cross over to VTT playing and I was using the PDF to run the module before, using this version would save me a TON of time linking NPC sheets and laying out the encounters. I'll get it and respond here with the results. Also, I'm super pumped for the next Elderbrain module, I took that survey a few months ago!

Update: FG Unity seems to port all of the information and links in correctly. We'll see how it holds up in the new program when all of us are mashing buttons this weekend.

I got an alert on Facebook that this had a 95% discount, making it 99¢. Was that a scam?

Hi Jason! The pdf module is on sale for $0.99 for the first 30 purchases. Here’s the discount link: https://www.dmsguild.com/browse.php?discount=924aa0c521. This one you commented on is the Fantasy Grounds module, not the pdf version. Happy holidays!

You mean how many sessions it takes to play it? We play in 8 hour sessions on free weekends and we finished it in 4 sessions with quite heavy roleplaying involved.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
