This is not the Paris you know. The bleak influence of evil has stagnated and warped it, with hundreds of thousands living in abject poverty whilst the wealthy dine on gold. Winding streets riven with murder and madness lead through dark cemeteries, scandalous cabarets and twisted gardens, before circling up through monuments, palaces and the cathedral of Notre-Dame.  This is a Paris of terrible wonder and dreadful secrets, where masked men lurk in the shadows, and gargoyles are the only angels in sight. 

You have received an invitation to the Palais Garnier - an opera house of dubious reputation, frequented mainly due to its prestigious position as the only opera house in the city not openly operated by a masked megalomaniac with a taste for blood.
