Lantern Hag

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Suggested Price $1.00

Skulking through the sunken swamp-lands, the Lantern Hag carries a magic lantern, which captures the souls of the unfortunate, storing them for later consumption.  This release includes a new, atmospheric creature to haunt your marshland settings, along with her own mini-dungeon – the Lair of Granny Straylight.

The Lantern Hag can be used to quickly flesh out an evening’s worth of play. Low-level parties might find her to be a challenge though, but even tier 2 groups will struggle with the hag's special attack. The Lantern Hag can easily fit into the Saltmarsh campaign setting or countryside setting. It includes the following:

  • A new creature, complete with its own deadly special attack!
  • Ideas for lairs and minions of the Lantern Hag, including a selection of lair actions.
  • The Lair of Granny Straylight – a sample mini-dungeon for a Lantern Hag, completed with its own watercolor map, a group of trolls and a pair of goblins tasked with the ignoble duty of polishing dirty soul-bottles.

Thank you for checking us out! If you like the Lantern Hag, you might enjoy the following:

In the Dead of Night, a less serious graveyard setting, with its own grimdark Halfling vampire-hunter - https://www.dmsguild.com/product/291951/In-the-Dead-of-Night

The Raven’s Rocks – a collection of islands in Saltmarsh, one of whom could make a fine domicile for a prospective Lantern hag - https://www.dmsguild.com/product/282113/The-Ravens-Rocks--A-Saltmarsh-encounter

Bone China Isle – a much more jovial setting, where the souls of the dead are not taken by hags. Instead, they are imbued in magical pottery! See? Jovial! https://www.dmsguild.com/product/288416/Bone-China-Isle

Would you allow a period of immunity for those who made a saving throw already for the lantern. My group lost a single party member to the lantern before the trolls rendered the rest (bar one) unconscious. She's taken all the unconscious members of the party into her lair. I'm just wondering whether she would be able to trap their souls instantly with them being unable to resist or whether having already met the saving throw once they'd have a period of grace before the hag could try again. My ranger who failed his saving throw is sadly likely to be the first to become troll bait.

Hello Justin, I would suggest a period of immunity of 1d4 days before the Lantern Hag can again attempt to steal someone's soul.
For the trolls I suggest Grock's Cookery Book of Trollish Food. There is a fine recipe for Ranger Pâté in there.
Good luck.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
