We (Wizards) recognize that some of the legacy content available on this website does not reflect the values of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise today. Some older content may reflect ethnic, racial, and gender prejudice that were commonplace in American society at that time. These depictions were wrong then and are wrong today. This content is presented as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed. Dungeons & Dragons teaches that diversity is a strength, and we strive to make our D&D products as welcoming and inclusive as possible. This part of our work will never end.

You guys know that there are like 800,000 free fonts out there.. right?? $8 on sale for a personal use only font is completely nuts. Serious authors might want to pay for a commercial use license, but for personal use?? Don't feed the greed.

You KNOW WotC didn't create this font anyway.. They paid some content creator $250 for unlimited use of the font, and now they're feeding you XXX sized portions of the license to make some profit.

You do know this is for charity, right?

Yeah.. I wrote that 7 months ago boss. I don't recall if it said it was for charity or not, back then.

It's still silly, there are so many fonts out there now, you can match just about anything.. or find one close enough that it doesn't matter. Honestly, the real problem is finding websites that aren't trying to charge you money to download free for use fonts.

Nothing against Extra Life though, I've never heard a bad word about them. ;)

..AND ..my point was that if they allowed commercial use, EVERYBODY that actually wanted a font like that, would consider buying it.

Is it possible to purchase this font for commercial use? I have maps and other projects I'd like to sell. Thanks in advance.

Hey WotC, any thoughts on creating a font pack with the 3 alphabets listed in the Player's Handbook?

I've just installed this font on Windows 10 and the font's permissions are set to print and preview only rather than editable. Anyone know how to change this?

On macOS 10.15.1, the font doesn't pass the system's validation, is labeled as having a “serious issue” and advised not to be installed. Will there be a fix?

The Font works as far as Mac OS X goes - it shows up and types in properly in iBooks Author and Affinity Photo. I'll be using it for the cover art of my TRIAL OF ASMODEUS project, coming soon to my DMsGuild channel.

The license allows you to use the font for "(a) personal, non-commercial use or (b) for materials published and distributed on the Dungeon Masters Guild (www.dmsguild.com)"

Good for my purposes, but your mileage may vary.

I like that it's going to extra life, but ten bucks for a font? That's a bit steep. I already made my donation this week lol.

Ten dollars is SUPER cheap for a font. As a professional artist who uses fonts, it's cheap.

$10 for a font strictly for personal use is not a value, for professional use sure.

As a graphic designer, ten dollars for a font is a STEAL. Font families easily get into the hundreds to thousands of dollars for both personal and commercial use. Ever try to buy helvetica for just personal use? It's $35 for each variant. EACH. Meaning that italics is 35, bold is 35, and that's for one specific license. If you buy it for desktop use then try and use it for web, you are violating your license agreement.

Question: Does purchasing the font include a license to use the font with other DMsGuild products — or is it just for personal use?

I'd play it safe and assume it's not a commercial use TTF or OFT file.

While you can not "Resell or Distribute" the font files itself, the use of the font in any document you create, whether for free or for sale can not be limited in the United Kingdom (See Copyright Designs & Patents Act 1988) In the US, the law gets a little trickier, Fonts are not permitted to be copyrighted in the US, but they are allowed to licensed. While most people think attaching a license file along with the font file is sufficient to legally license a font, this is not correct in the United States. A font file must contain the license in the meta data of the file itself, and the meta data does not allow restricted use. Essentially if you have paid the license fee in the United States, the provider of the Font Can not restrict your use other then the file distribution, essentially they can copyright the file, but they can not copyright the actual typeface of the Font itself. So if you use the font to create a PDF or Printed document you are not distributing the file and thus free to...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
