Wizard Spell Lessons

Tired of writing down spells without doing math and referencing charts?

Feeling down because there's not enough library science in your game?

Suffering from a complex suite of neuroses that demand a metaphysical framework for magic before you can give yourself permission to enjoy being a pretend wizard?

Welcome to the Academy of the Arcane.  We have pages and pages of magic theory and spell scribing guidelines, perfect for roleplaying your Arcana proficiency.  We have wizard lesson plans, ideal for character backgrounds or helping you plan a game focused on wizards in school.  We have team roles to add more flavor to characters, independent of class.  So come on in, sign your name in blood, and open your mind to the mysteries of the multiverse.

Note: this document is not intended for the casual consumer of gaming products.  If you don't like funky fonts, fantasy chemistry, or the ramblings of madmen, this is probably not your niche.  But if you do? Buckle up.

For something a little less esoteric, check out my wizard spell scrolls.  Those handouts are ready for immediate use at your game table.

It seems I can't give stars because I'm also a publisher, but I would give 5 if I could. Truthfully, this document might be a bit over the top for a lot of games, but I think it's brilliant. A -lot- of effort has gone into it and it adds a ton of flavor to the magic system. I definitely recommend checking it out.
My only suggestion would be to change the font. It looks great and very authentic but also makes it a bit hard to read.
Since I can't give stars, I'll also review this on my website in the next few days,

Hi Dave,

I think "a bit over the top" is the best review I could ask for =). You're quite right, a ton of research and theory went into it; I'm glad to hear that it shows. Your kind words are appreciated, and your site is bookmarked.

Hi badger,

Can you let me know what part is giving you trouble? If a section warrants more explanation, then it probably makes the most sense to add that explanation to the document itself. I see card 20 (example scripting process) didn't convert to PDF quite as legibly as I'd hoped. I've made a couple of minor changes to it to improve the readability. If it's still too information-dense, or there's another section troubling you, let me know.

Hmm I took the preview for this one rather than buying it like I did the other spell kit.

It seems overly complicated and I am autistic.

Its hard to see from the sample how this system will work out and as a result I am reticent to buy it

Hi badger,

No worries! If this product doesn't speak to you, you don't owe me anything, least of all a purchase.

I wouldn't call it complicated, but it is definitely complex. That is, the difficulty comes not from any one piece being inscrutable, but instead comes from having a large collection of simple pieces (in other words: relationships are complicated, rockets are complex).

I've updated the preview to start a page or so earlier, where I have a summary of the contents, and end a page later. In retrospect, I should have included the beginning bit in the preview from the start because I think it better explains what you can expect to see. So have another look at the preview, and don't worry about it if this one doesn't align with your interests. As long as you're enjoying the spell scrolls in my other document, that's enough for me.

I will look now and see.

The other product in my opinion could easily be raised by $5 and still be worth it.

I have a wiz in the group I dm and he has found a spell book. I have talked over questing the "logical language" to understanding the 4 spells he will receive.

He is very excited by this.

Fantastic, I'm glad you like the Wizard Spell Scrolls! They are basically the polished end-product, while the Spell Lessons here explain the magic system I developed to create them. But the Spell Scrolls stand on their own; the Spell Lessons are only if you want to peek "under the hood" of the magic system; they are not required reading.

I'm excited that your wizard player is excited, and very happy that you feel the Spell Scrolls are a bargain. You can always let other people know what you think of a product with a review, if you feel like it.

I cant review on this account.

I have petitioned the powers that be to convert it back to a 'normal' account.

I only mentioned it because it sounded like you had strong feelings about it. No worries, my friend!

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
