Monster Manual Expanded II is the sequel to the MITHRAL-best selling Monster Manual Expanded.  Just like the first book, this aims to provide Dungeon Masters more options and flexibility in designing adventures and dressing up their dungeons with a wider variety of creatures and characters that are based on the Monster Manual, Volo's Guide to Monsters, Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes, and many others.  Finally, it also adds variants that provide a nostalgic and classic feel that DMs experienced with the older editions are probably familiar with.

Lolth. Asmodeus. Mephistopheles.  Just a few of the many iconic characters and creatures you can find in here.  In total, there are over 390 creature stat blocks in this book at the Dungeon Master's disposal!

Hallo. I noticed in mine copy in the Juvenile Blue Dragon statblock (page 97)a mistake, it says Acid instead of Lightning in the Breath Weapon description. Is this reported before?

Is there anyway for this and MMEI to be imported into DnDBeyond or transferred into that for use as well? Or do I have to indvidually upload each monster for use in their system? (I would of course keep it private to just my personal use and campaigns)

Hi Darrian! Sorry, the content is exclusive to DM's Guild as per licensing rules. However, no one is going to stop you from copying statblocks you want to use over to DnD Beyond for your personal use as you just mentioned. :)

Regarding Class Talents: was there suppose to be only Barbarian talents and half of Bard talents in the book without the rest of the class talents? I feel like I might be missing some pages. Either way, I'm still happy with my purchase.

This looks super legitimate, is this official WOTC stuff?? Or just someone who has spent amazing time and effort to create WOTC quality stuff?

Hi Matthew. If you mean released through WoTC then no, they aren't. As with most DM's Guild titles, these are third party licensed by WoTC through their affiliate DM's Guild. Through this partnership, we are allowed to use WoTC IP and create our own content. And thanks!

Did you say (somewhere else, I can't remember) that there is a Monster Manual III in the works?

If so, you're the gift that keeps on giving! If not, same thing really.
I love these monsters.

Thanks Adam! If you mean Monster Manual Expanded III, then yes, there is but it's still a long ways off. I'm still trying to finish my current book (Monster Talents II). Don't expect MME3 to arrive this year. However, artwork for it is already being done and I should be able to provide sneak previews later this year. ;)

Is there any way I could get the token pictures for these monsters? My roommate bought me the PDF and hardcover of the 1st expansion and I just bought the PDF and hardcover for the 2nd expansion. It would extremely helpful and save me a lot of time if there was anyway to get these.

Hi Chris,

Unfortunately, I can't. Most of the artwork are licensed thru DM's Guild so I'm obliged not to share them, not outside DMG at least. But since you're a member of DMG, you can grab majority of the artwork from the DMG Resource packs. They are available and free in the store. The rest are licensed as well, but thru Drivethrurpg and, unlike the DMG packs, they require payment.

Hey Dragonix, I’ve got a monster I’m planning to use for my Tier 4 Eberron characters, and I was wondering if you could provide any balancing advice to assure that I provide a fair encounter, yet not outright kill my Lvl 18 PCs. Here is the prototype monster :
Sora Katra
Medium Fey, Chaotic Evil
Armor Class : 17 (natural armor)
HP : 215 (25d10 + 65)
Speed : 40 feet, fly 40 feet (hover)
Strength: 18 (+4) Dexterity: 20 (+5) Constitution : 20 (+ 5) Intelligence : 16 (+3) Wisdom : 22 (+ 6) Charisma : 25 (+ 7)
Saving Throws : Dex + 11 Wis + 12 Cha + 14
Skills : Deception + 17 Persuasion + 21 Insight + 17 Perception + 16
Languages : all, telepathy 120ft
Damage Resistances: fire, lightning, bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from nonmagical weapons
Damage Immunities : Acid, Poison
Condition Immunities: Charmed, Frightened, Poisoned,
Senses : truesight 120 ft, Passive Perception 21
Challenge Rating : 24 (62,000 exp)

Hi Liz. :)

So I checked Sora and her stats (I'm assuming she's female). Based on my calculations on paper, she is showing up as just CR 21 to me (this is at 206 damage per round average, with horrid wilting, psychic scream, and prismatic spray hitting at least 3 characters each time and using lightning bolt every round) so I think she should be a challenging enough encounter. If your players have energy resistances or have high spell saves/avoidance, they might get lucky and deal with her easily. However, if you want her to be tougher, I suggest doing hit and run tactics with her. If her baleful curses have no limits (more than 1 baleful curse at a time), then have her go invisible passage, wait for your players to have a normal encounter with her minions (if they are in her lair), then use baleful curse at each player. If discovered, have her flee. She just keeps doing this each time the party gets distracted with another encounter, until they run out of remove curses or are forced to rest....See more

Thanks! I was actually aiming for her to have hit-and-run tactics similar to yours, as her troll minions would act as HP sponges, whilst she unloaded spells on my fighter and barbarian. Sadly, my party doesn’t have high spell avoidance, so she will probably be tough enough for them. I’ll also allow curses to stack, as you suggested, but I don’t think that having 6 new flaws is a good idea. Maybe only 1 flaw at a time? Once again, thanks for helping me with this. I want it to be a tough final encounter for my campaign, and I’m not afraid to be a little cruel to my party :)

Any plans to add this to Roll20 Marketplace? I want to use it, but the thought of manually adding all of these creatures there is a no go.
Customer avatar

Hi Rotrude. There are no plans. It's not because I don't want to, but it's because I can't. Once you release a product through DM's Guild, you enter into an agreement that you can't sell it anywhere else. And since you can only purchase Roll20 products through their Marketplace, it makes it impossible.

I just tested out a few of the summoning spells such as “Conjure Woodland Beings” and the only one that I found to be useful was “Conjure Animals” (8 wolves of course!) For the next MME, I would greatly appreciate some lower CR monsters that are intended to be used for summoning spells. It would make my wizard’s day if he had some non-undead minions to do his bidding :)

Don't any of the fey that I've done in both MMEs not summonable by Conjure Woodland Beings?
If you have the time, please create a list of CR levels that are badly missing for each of the summoning spells (in table format). This would help me plan what to create later.

You are indeed correct! I totally glossed over the medium elementals and the variant pixies/dryads/quicklings. The only spell I saw lacking some options was Conjure Celestial though my cleric never uses that spell anyway (7th level is ridiculous for just one combatant). Though I might suggest adding 5e versions of guardinals because I believe celestials to be the most lacking of all the monster types :)

Hey Dragonix M,

I've been reading the reviews and I'm super excited about getting MM Expanded I and II. I have noticed, though, that several recent comments mention some typos in the text. I'd like to get the hardcopies, but I don't want to buy them before errors have been fixed. It sounds like you're on it, but is there an estimate as to when I could order the hardcopy and expect not to end up with those typos? Thanks!

Cheers

Hi Joshua! For now I can only update the pdfs. Revising the hardcovers are unfortunately not possible at the moment. These will require a much more complicated process and will usually initiate from DM's Guild. I apologize for the typos. I did hire 3 editors but not all issues were caught before print. But I promise you the typos are very very minimal considering the 320+ pages of content you will get. The issues are mostly in the dragon section but you can easily ignore them if you are already familiar with their abilities. Again, apologies for being unable to revise the hardcovers.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
