Errol Skull

Quoth the spells misunderstood,

Necromancy Can Be Good :)

Errol Grim takes you through their book of exhumed necromancy spells, and into the world of this school of magic that many have never seen before! As an undead themself, Errol's perspective is enlightening, if a little grim. :)

You'll find:

  • 21 new necromancy spells with a wide variety of utility and flavor
  • Hauntlings, little fragments of spirits with a big sweet tooth
  • Echoes, a new player option that allows you to play as the memories of a corpse for a short while
  • A simple puzzle within the supplement itself that may lead to an interesting surprise on your adventure :)

Along with horrifyingly adorable art crafted by Chelsea Livingstone (www.colonelcheru.com)

Little ghosts

"From a design standpoint, I love that the team ensured that there’s at least one spell for every playstyle out there. There is at least something for dealing damage, role-playing, utility, etc. so I’m confident that everyone can find a spell or two that they love in Necromancy Can Be Good!" - Eldadres, Dungeon Solvers (www.dungeonsolvers.com)

As a bonus, here's a new spooky familiar for your casters to summon: the Butterfly

Butterfly Stat Block

You may find that this spellbook pairs well with the Residual Magic sorcerous origin from The Book of House. See for yourself :)

On another topic I don't know if it's intentional but the spell "petit mort" should be spelled "petite mort", the word death being female, the adjective takes an e at the end.

I was wondering why the sorcerer had access to so few of this spells? Of corse I can chose to ignore it but I'm curious about the thought process behind this choice.

Hey jb! You're right that they don't really get all that many spells here. I'm happy to elaborate as best I can~

So my thought process started with how I see the sorcerer. Their spellcasting comes from within themselves and don't usually involve a lot of preparation (except when stronger magic requires some hefty material components). This set of necromancy spells is majorly focused on utility and preparing materials. I made sure the sorcerer got as many of the spells as I saw appropriate, but most of them didn't quite fit.

That said, it's exactly why I advertise my Residual Magic sorcerer along with this supplement! Residual sorcerers get their magic from their families being all wizards, and have access to additional wizard spells from a single school. You can have a super impressive necromancer sorcerer between the two books~

If I were to be more lenient with giving them spells, I suggest Death Sense, Numb, Heart Link, Petite Mort, Soul Swap, and Death of the Author. Let...See more

Thank you for you answer! I understand the logic behind the choice. Concerning the spells I would have added, they are pretty much the one you spoke of. Especially the high level ones, first because they are cool, but also because they fit well with the "bending the rules" theme.

There seems to be an error with the PDF. The black boxed text of Errol's commentary is not rendering correctly throughout the document--it is showing as scrambled text with only a few lines of each box legible.

Ahoy Christopher!

If you or anyone else could send me a screenshot of what you see (Willy.AbeelATgmail.com) I'll send you screenshots of what you're supposed to see while I solve the issue! I have a hunch of what might be happening

Alrighty! I responded to your email, and I just added the [DEROTATED] pdf to the download. DMsGuild should be sending out the update to you and everyone who's bought the supplement so far :)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
