Create-A-Roguish: A Rogue Archetype Creation Guide

ADD TO WISHLIST >

It's not the ominous hood, the wry smile, or even the razor-sharp blade that is most terrifying about the rogue. Quite the opposite, in fact. It's the knowledge that, no matter how fast you are, how skilled you are, you'll never even see them coming for you. In this guide I explore the rogue, a master assassin, thief, and smooth operator. This guide will help you create your own rogue Archetype to specialize your devious and sneaky character to your liking.

Includes:

  • How-to guide including defining your Archetype and creating features
  • Overview of rogue class features for easy reference
  • Two complete rogue Archetypes

This guide was crafted after researching the official rogue Archetype options as well as other homebrew. It offers suggestions, inspiration, research insights, and examples of features including two complete rogue Archetypes for you to use at your table.

Another helpful guide, although the Hawker archetype doesn't make sense. You forgot an important clause in Sneak Attack: "You don’t need advantage on the attack roll if another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of it, that enemy isn’t incapacitated, and you don’t have disadvantage on the attack roll." (PHB) So the 3rd level feature is redundant. Also, does the Hawker's falcon have a stat block? If it does, the archetype doesn't provide a method to resurrect them if they die.

Hey Maxwell! Thanks for the feedback. My intention with the hawker is that the falcon isn't explicitly a character; there is no stat block. To that end, I wanted to be very explicit that the falcon still created a Sneak Attack opportunity for the rogue. It seems that section got a little messy, which I can update. Thanks again!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
