Ghesh's Guide to Making Things is a crafting and modification system designed to complement the 5th Edition rulesystem. The kobold inventor, Ghesh Fizzlebang, is an enigmatic character of some renown, known for his rather explosive ways of improving the equipment of his fellow adventurers. Though his background may cause some raised eyebrows as to the validity of his craft, Ghesh has thoroughly tested all of his inventions for imperfections before releasing it to the world—as is evident by the burns he's received and fingers he's lost. 

In this supplement you will find:

  • Guidelines on crafting every weapon and set of armor appearing in the Player's Handbook
  • Additional materials you can add to weapons and armor to grant them new, foe-crushing effects. Examples include adamantine, azurite, and cold iron. 
  • 90 modifications you can add to your equipment, such as the finned, glamoured, and hardened modifications for armor and the beast singer, uppercut, and lucky modifications for weapons. 
  • A system for using bombs and grenades, including special bombmaker's tools.
  • A new weapon: the grenade launcher
  • Over 20 unique bombs and grenades. Examples include the binding bomb, ram rockets, and the vortex grenade. 

With this supplement in hand, you can tailor your equipment to fit your character as they grow more powerful. The family greatsword you inherited can follow you from 1st to 20th level, growing in power as you enhance it using modifications and additional materials. The chain mail you found in an ancient dwelling can be improved to new levels of quality, elevating it from simple, protective steel to a legendary set of armor infused with arcane might.

There seems to be no guideline on how to adjust the price of bombs crafted at a higher quality.

The price as listed is the same no matter the quality of the bomb. It's basically rewarding characters in higher tier play because their skills at crafting the bombs get better and thus the bomb gets better too. This rarely comes into play with vendors as they are mostly low-level NPCs who don't often get access to higher-level explosives.

Feel free to adjust the prices so they make sense for your game! The in-game economy is really hard to balance in a product like this since everyone plays the game differently.

Couple of suggestions for common (non-magical) modifiers:

Chain (one handed weapons or spears/pole-arms no more than 7' long) Common modification in Kara-Taur, adds a weighted chain at the end of the weapon and gives the weapon properties: Martial and Entangle

Brutal (any) add small spikes and serrations to the weapon. Does critical damage on a natural 19 or 20 roll

Hello, i have to say i am very interested in buying your book, but i have a question before do you balance this crafted items with the current items in the scales of rarity of magic items (uncommon, rare, etc)?, thanks and keep going with this projects :)

Many of the modifications are made to replace the some of the magic items found in the DMG or other places. Generally, the rarity of magic items and the quality of equipment can be set up like this:

Common/Uncommon - Basic
Uncommon/Rare - Intermediate
Very Rare - Advanced
Legendary - Masterwork

My party and I are enjoying this very so much its a work of art. While were discussing it a question arose: How do we determine the quality of a set of robes and how many upgrades it would be able to hold?

A set of robes function just as any other set of armor would (even if it isn't technically armor). Since robes are simply clothes, I suggest using traveler's clothes to figure out the basic price of the robe. Or perhaps fine clothes if your wizard or monk is feeling fancy :)

Question regarding the wording for part of the description of Brutal upgrades:

"When you roll ... on any damage dice for this weapon, you may reroll the dice and must keep the second result."

This differs from the wording of the Great Weapon Fighting fighting style in that it specifies "dice" over "die"... For clarity, is this intentional? That you would choose on *any* rolled 1s to reroll EVERY damage die at once, taking the new result? Or is it meant to be read similarly to GWF, considering each damage die separately?

Definitely looks more like the wording used on Savage Attacker, but you don't get to choose between them you must take the second roll.

In the Sample File (not sure of the full pdf), under Weapon Tiers on page 7 the paragraph and chart are the Armor chart duplicated. Really liking what I see so far though.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
