The Lady Dark (5e) (SoEW 4)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The Lady Dark is the fourth adventure in the Sands of Empty Wishes adventure path. This adventure for fourth and/or fifth level characters begins in the city of Almraiven, moves through the wilderness to a mysterious above-ground shipwreck, and takes the party through the ship’s wreckage to solve a tantalizing mystery. Easy opportunities for combat, roleplaying, and investigation are all included. While the Sands of Empty Wishes is set in Calimshan in the Forgotten Realms, it is designed to fit without major adjustments into any campaign setting that features playful magic and genasi. Parties who complete this adventure will earn one or two levels.

The city of Almraiven is still recovering from a series of natural disasters. Now the wreckage of a monstrous battleship from the past has appeared nearby. Is this ancient kingdom back? Has a new power learned to build these ancient battleships? Where did this wreck come from?

In this adventure module, you'll find:

  • 28 pages of professionally formatted, illustrated, color content
  • Between five and fifteen hours of gameplay with a minimal amount of preparation (playtest groups enjoyed between two and five full sessions)
  • Read-aloud text that can be used, adapted, or ignored for each encounter area--including "non-combat" encounters
  • Information about the adventure's important NPCs, new magic items, and a flavorful twist on a conventional dungeon design
  • Multiple formats for the adventure module itself (gorgeous full-color, hyperlinked PDF and printer-friendly text-only version)
  • GM and player map versions of the adventure's encounter areas (designed for use at the table or in a VTT)

If you enjoy this product, you should also check out The Vault of Eternity (9th-10th level adventure) and The Artificer Class!

The first adventure in the Sands of Empty Wishes adventure path is The Dungeon of the Decanter. The second is Mysteries & Aqueducts. The third is adventure is available for free (PWYW)! It is called And Then the Ground Shook.

First, I want to say thank you very much for making these adventures. I have purchased all 4 current ones and the 12 noble genasi houses. They were fun to read through and I can't wait to run my players through them.

That said, I need to make some adjustments to your series based on prior canon lore: Almraiven is proud of the fact that they were the only city to NOT be ruled by the genasi. Also, it is the city farthest from the desert and next to a river. So I intent to have my players start in and often return to Calimport.

I look forward to your next installment of the series.

I recently purchased the 4 adventures so far in this adventure path, and am in the process of reading through them now. So far, they're fantastic and exactly what I've been looking for. I haven't gotten to this adventure just yet, though, and am curious if this is the end of this adventure path or if more releases are scheduled?

Justin, I'm so glad you like what you've read so far! Thank you.

The fifth in the series has been drafted and play-tested; I do not currently have a timeline for release, but it will happen!

I'm also almost finished with a small lore supplement related to these adventures to support DMs who want to make more extensive use of the genasi noble houses. (In fact, it's likely the lore supplement will be released before the 5th adventure at this point.)

Thank you for the quick reply! I'll definitely be looking forward to both of those items. I've only recently discovered Calimshan and am excited to start some adventures there, and will love to explore more of the story you're setting up as well as the lore in these modules.

Any updates on this? No rush, of course, just checking in re: this, as my current game is now running DoD and intends to stay with it if possible.

I wish I had a firmer timeline! The pandemic ironically robbed me of much of the time I'd normally have devoted to this, and I also had the opportunity to do some work for the DDAL (Check out The Oracle of War adventures, particularly "My Undying Heart"!). If things go back to somewhat normal soon, I'd like to put it together early this summer and get it posted. Thanks for the the feedback, though--it just might guilt me into making the time sooner ;)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
