The Nine Hells have their champions of Bael and Zariel, but what of the Abyss? The lords of that fetid realm of infinite horrors have much to gain from the death of all that is good, and they all have their own players in this endless game.
This supplement contains stat blocks for 9 entirely new unique demonic generals, 5 stat block adjustments for other demonic generals, 6 new demons, 7 new fiendish spore servants, 1 new variety of myconid, and 1 brand new demon lord: Shaktari, Queen of Fury.
This supplement also contains 7 new legendary items, one artifact with two different forms, and a new variety of demon that begins its life as a magic sword.
Finally, for ease of reference, it contains a list of creatures that are strongly associated with each demon lord that is involved in the Blood War, organized by CR and complete with source names.
Oh, and it also includes an illustration of Athux as well as Shaktari. Enjoy those!
GENERALS OF THE ABYSS.
ARMIES OF BAPHOMET.
Oostarix, Eater of Men (CR 14)
This obese warlord sorceress is one of the mightiest minotaurs in service to Baphomet, and possesses the ability to empower her magic when she tastes the blood of others.
Muuzin (CR 11)
This tanarukk ranger has fanatically served Baphomet since she was born, and now she roams the planes undermining the enemies of the Horned Lord.
Ankashar (CR 8)
These chimerical sins against flesh possess the traits and abilities of a myriad of creatures, from bull to lion to snake. Created by Baphomet to serve his favored thralls, they are loyal only to their master and Baphomet himself.
Ghour (CR 14)
A ghour is a demon formed from a minotaur servant of Baphomet that particularly please the Horned Lord. Appearing as a towering minotaur and possessing a terrifying roar and a poisonous breath, these demons are incredibly dangerous warriors of Baphomet.
ARMIES OF DEMOGORGON.
Belcheresk (CR 22)
This balor is Demogorgon's right hand and is the being best suited to supplant him. He commands his armies all across the planes, from those engaged in the Blood War to those protecting the Prince of Demons' domestic interests.
Saint Kargoth, the Deceiver (CR 20)
This fallen paladin of Oerth is the first of the death knights and commands thirteen death knight champions across the planes. He despises orders of goodness above all else and would love nothing more than to see them crushed into the dirt.
Kazuul Armeater (CR 17)
Though he was once a stern paladin of Bane, Kazuul soon came to love violence and power for its own sake and turned to Demogorgon. Now he's a monstrous reptilian abomination, gathering powerful weapons and devouring his enemies with glee.
Thrarak, the Flayed Maiden (CR 17)
She was among the orcs who were first transformed into ettins, and she has devoted herself to Demogorgon, acting as a shaman and soothsayer to the demon lord. Now she travels the planes, searching out his enemies and sabotaging resistance to his sign of madness.
Verakia (CR 14)
The verakia are an primordial breed of demon native to the Screaming Jungle of Demogorgon's realm. Embodiments of pure savagery, to even approach one is to be overcome with bloodlust. Only the mightiest demons can successfully subdue one, but those that do gain a ferocious mount.
ARMIES OF GRAZ'ZT.
Athux (CR 19)
The favorite son of Graz'zt views his assignment to the Blood War as proof of his father's fear of him. He believes that the Blood War is beneath him, though he greatly enjoys the opportunity for slaughter that it presents, especially the occasional celestials that involve themselves in the bloodshed. To that end, he would love to see Zariel redeemed so that he might kill her for pleasure.
Boz'mozog and Boz'gozon, the Blood Twins (CR 12)
This babau was the first born of its race, born from the blood of Graz'zt himself. He serves the Dark Prince in the Blood War and considers himself to be the greatest of Graz'zt's children, resenting all his siblings.
Kelvezu (CR 15)
The kelvezu are a type of demon created by Graz'zt from erinyes devils. Lithe, handsome, and deadly, they are insatiable pursuers of pleasure, and their greatest pleasure is the manipulation and murder of mortal souls.
ARMIES OF JUIBLEX.
Darkness Given Hunger (CR XX)
This overgrown black pudding is possessed by the spirit of a hezrou that once served Juiblex fanatically. Fully immersed in the foulness and hunger of its new form, Darkness Given Hunger is able to rapidly spawn new black puddings, making it a self generating army of one.
Kynnom, Eater of Stone (CR 17)
This blue dracolich has been driven mad by Juiblex's influence, and now he follows his armies, supporting Darkness Given Hunger with his deadly lightning breath and gathering whatever items remain after its armies have devoured everything else.
ARMIES OF ORCUS.
The Heirophants of Annihilation (CR 20)
The original seven bodaks that Orcus created remain in his service, mulling over the meaning of true annihilation. From Gorguth, the Heirophant of Emptiness, to Mogmazoth, the Heirophant of Anguish, they are all dangerous servants of Orcus, whose very gaze creates new bodaks.
Skyshadow (CR 12)
A skyshadow is based off of a retriever, its design modified significantly to enable it to fly and entrap people with its shadow. These dangerous constructs serve as the mounts for the Heirophants of Annihilation and their favored servants, but can also be claimed by any creature bold enough to slay their current rider.
ARMIES OF SHAKTARI.
Shaktari, Queen of Fury (CR 26)
Featured on the cover of this supplement, Shaktari is one of the most ferocious combatants in the Blood War. Though little known on the Material Plane, Shaktari is legendary in the Blood War. A marilith of titanic size and possessing eight arms, Shaktari is a whirlwind of blades on the battlefield. Though she was imprisoned in the Wells of Darkness for centuries, she has returned to the battlefield more savage than ever with four magnificent legendary blades in her grasp. Utterly obsessed with Zariel, Shaktari lets nothing get between her and the bloodshed she craves.
Kaliva (CR 17)
Shaktari's most powerful general is a marilith with a terrible secret. Once human, she was transformed into a demon and lives in terror that her secret will be revealed. Almost as savage as Shaktari herself, Kaliva possesses a mastery of swordsmanship and arcane magic that makes her a deadly foe.
Arrow Demon (CR 8)
Shaktari created the arrow demons from her own blood to assist her in waging war against the devils of the Nine Hells. Their arrows fly true over long distances and lay devils low with their hateful arrows.
ARMIES OF ZUGGTMOY.
Simiel, Duke of Ecstasy (CR 20)
Simiel was once a solar, a warrior of righteousness and ally of Zariel before her fall. However, he perished in the Abyss and was animated by Zuggtmoy's fungi, turning him into an angelic bearer of toxic spores. Now his desire to save the world has been corrupted into a desire to draw all living things into the sickening delirium of Zuggtmoy's dream.
Myconid Reveler (CR 5)
A myconid reveler is a myconid sovereign that has been completely overtaken by Zuggtmoy's sinister influence, turning them into deliriously dancing creatures of foul joy.
Needle Demon (CR 6)
These needle covered fiends were once barbed devils, but the pervasive misery of the Hells caused them to pursue relief in the psychoactive hallucinogens of Zuggtmoy, corrupting them into foul creatures entirely reliant.
Spore Servants (CR 1-15)
This supplement includes statistics for seven new spore servants made from demons, devils, and other fiends that fall in the Blood War and are indentured into Zuggtmoy's service. This includes rules for a spore servant variant called a scion of Zuggtmoy, which is a spore servant inhabited by the demonic spirit of one of the Queen of Rot's disgraced servants.
NEW ITEMS.
Bilious Sphere.
This profane artifact was once a powerful foci of holy magic on Oerth, but Kargoth the Betrayer's actions corrupted it into the form it now bears. Now it is wielded by the wretched death knight in service to Demogorgon, granting him incredible powers. A fallen paladin could wrench this from Kargoth's grasp and wield it as their own.
Orb of Sol.
If a fallen paladin attuned to the Bilious Sphere finds redemption, the corrupted artifact returns to its true glory and becomes the Orb of Sol, a magnificent artifact that wields spectacular magical powers, granting the paladin that wields it incredible ability to promote goodness and defeat evil across the planes.
Caligrosto (CR 10).
A caligrosto is a demonic spirit which infests a weapon, imbuing it with unholy power to entice unwitting adventurers into wielding. Though it at first appears to be a simple weapon, it feeds on the bloodshed it engages in until it matures and emerges, ready to cause havok.
Ffazablur.
This longsword was designed by demons specifically to be wielded in the Blood War. It grants its wielder incredible speed and the ability to lop off the limbs of their enemies. Currently it is wielded by Shaktari.
Horn of the Sea Mother.
The Horn of the Sea Mother is a legendary item corrupted by the power of Demogorgon. Though attuned to the churning seas of the Gaping Maw, the Horn of the Sea Mother is not beyond redemption, and its purification could make for an adventure in of itself. Currently it is wielded by Belcheresk.
Midnight.
This longsword is forged of beautiful adamantine and is an artistic statement against entropy. Its ability to convert negative energy to positive energy makes it an excellent weapon against the undead. Currently it is wielded by Shaktari.
Starzad.
Crafted by a djinni for a sha'ir, this magnificent vorpal longsword possesses the finesse property and appears to be forged from a shard of the sky itself. Currently it is wielded by Shaktari.
Tooth of Grom.
This longsword is forged from a tooth wrenched from the skull of a usurper god of the giants. It is wreathed in flames and drinks the life from its victims to assuage the hunger built deep within it. Currently it is wielded by Kazuul.
Wizardbane.
This longsword is designed as the perfect weapon against spellcasters. Crafted by a wizard with the trapped soul of a mind flayer, it can cut away magic with its psionic powers. The sword longs to be wielded in battle against spellcasters. Currently it is wielded by Shaktari.
World Splitter.
This axe was designed to lay low the enemies of dwarvenkind. However, it was stolen by Kazuul and has spent long centuries being wielded by the wretched champion of Demogorgon. It is desperate to be wielded by anyone with even a shred of goodness in its heart.Currently it is wielded by Kazuul.
