Dungeon Tiles: Carved Grass

ADD TO WISHLIST >

These modular tiles make it easy to build your own custom battle maps for your games or DM's Guild products and are compatible with the rest of the Companion Mouse “Dungeon Tiles” series of products.

The design is based on a 3 x 3 inch tile size, but, also include 3 x 6 inch, 3 x 9 inch, 6 x 6 inch, and 6 x 9 inch tiles. These sizes have been chosen because they are all easily printed using common color printers on letter size (8.5 x 11 inch) paper.

This collection is being introduced with 50 tile designs and additional tiles will be added based on your interest and input. Feel free to leave reviews, but, please leave suggestions and requests in the Discussions tab.

Files are provided in three different ways for use in print (400dpi) or for screen (150dpi) applications. The PDF contains print quality images laid out on letter paper with bleeds and trim marks making efficient use of paper. The CMYK-PRINT folder contains the individual raw images with a 0.125 inch bleed. (A bleed is when the image extends past the edge of the finished piece so that when it is trimmed the image runs all the way to the edge even if your cuts are not perfect. These must be trimmed to finished size or the grid will not line up.) The RGB-SCREEN folder contains the individual raw images without the bleed for use on screen or design/mockups to determine how many of what tiles your map will need.

You can make the printed dungeon tiles more durable by placing them on a backing made of card board, mat board, foam core, lexan, or other materials depending on how durable you want them to be. I’ve found it best to laminate the printed images to the backing before trimming. When trimming do not remove an entire edge but start cutting just beyond a corner so the tiles and cut marks remain in place until the all sides of the tile have been cut. A clear coat spray finish or laminate can be placed on top to protect the image and even make it possible to make a dry erase finish. You can even take the files to your nearest printer for the most professional results.

  3. DM’s Guild Content Creators agree to provide a small 2.75% royalty on sales of products sold on the DM’s Guild that make use Companion Mouse products. This can be set up in your account under “Manage My Royalties” by finding your products that use Companion Mouse map resources > Selecting “Split” > Enter collaboration@companionmouse.com in the email field > Enter 2.75 in the percentage field > and Selecting “Submit”.
  4. Companion Mouse products, in part or in whole, must not be offered for sale or distributed in any way anywhere besides the DM’s Guild.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
