BEHOLD! Liar's Night

ADD TO WISHLIST >

"Ah yes. Well! Adventurers! Adventures are here, here at my very own home. And on Liar's Night, of all nights! Did you think I would not have expected you? Did you think I did not prepare for this? Do you believe, as you may, that I have crawled inside this carved gourd because I had let my guard down? Ha! Ha. Haaaa. You see, this is all happening exactly as I have planned it. You never had a chance!

Wait? What's that? Candy... for Liar's Night? Oh! I see. Yes, yes... of course. You are here, for the candy. Well! Behold the Beholder, it should not be said, is not prepared for such things. I have gnomish chocolate gum-drops for each of you. Do not ask about the gnomes. Do not. Take these chocolates, take them! And beware, there are many dangers out here tonight. Strange creatures prowl the town, dread curses sweep over the land, there is murder in the streets, and even the festivities have an air of danger to them! Be careful, small ones, for it is Liars' Night.

And mischief loves a good adventure."

Going to be running this at a local Con on Halloween weekend as a homebrew offering. I plan on test running the adventures over the next few weeks to get an idea of the run times of each part of the module, but was wondering if anyone had already run them and had an idea on how long each part runs. The copy I purchased has the following 7 mini modules:
Adventure 1: A Familiar Sight
Adventure 2: Restless Spirits
Adventure 3: The Lord of Sorrow's Revel
Adventure 4: The Deceiver’s Gala
Adventure 5: Curse of the Living Yarndoll
Adventure 6: One Wild Night at the Faire
Adventure 7: The Hag’sTooth
I appreciate any thoughts advice regarding run times on the individual parts. Thank You.

What tiers are the adventures suitable for? It looks interesting, but I need to know if there’s something level-appropriate for my group before I buy. Thanks!

Adventures 1, 2 & 7: Tier 1 (levels 1-4)
Adventures 3, 4, 5, 6: Tier 2 (levels 5-10)

I ran adventure 3 (Lord of Sorrow's Revel) for a 5th level party of 5 characters and ended up buffing the final encounter, otherwise it felt level appropriate.

This is a great concept(!!!) and I'm really looking forward to running a module for my friends as a one off to get us all in that spoopy vibe for Halloween. I gave my friends a rundown of the various scenarios and they are most interested in #5 The Curse of the Living Yarn Doll (thunder and lightning). I'm a little worried that the tier recommendation and encounter CRs are a little off. Anyone else see what I'm looking at or is my math off?

I picked this up so I could have an easy, spooky adventure to run for my kid and some of his friends.

In adventure 2, there's a ghost on the combat XP table, but I don't see a ghost in any of the combat scenarios. Did I miss something?

Nevermind, I got an answer on Twitter from Emily. Charles uses the Ghost stat block.

Thanks!

The quotes from Behold the Beholder are fantastic! I definitely hope we get an adventure centred around him.

Also typo on Page 41. Braided condition refers to itself as memory drained later on.

Thanks Matthew M and Chris G for your encouraging review and edits! Since we've got silver status, we're working on adding additional content (Wild Magic anyone?) and a thorough review of the text. Let us know if you find anything else!

Got this tonight and looking forward to running it. Scene B of the first adventure states "When the adventurers return to town in search
of the missing candy, they encounter a strange
sight:"
I'm assuming that "candy" should be creature, or something similar.

Fantastic adventures and more than worth the price, but in desperate need of a copy editor.

I assume no, but want to ask to be sure with you being an AL author also, are these AL-legal adventure supplements?

This supplement is not AL Legal at this time. Thanks for checking!

Thanks for the response. Is there a chance of it becoming legal later? or is this created strictly for non-AL games?

Hey you might want to make a few corrections to Adventure 4.
I believe a character is referred to as "Tavis", "Travis", and "Tavir" in different parts of the adventure.

Another correction. In Adventure 5 Scene B, there's a bit describing the Nagpa with a note that says "(See Scene B)". I believe this should actually say "(See Scene C)" as scene C is the one that actually features the Nagpa.

One more possible typo. "Valleryan", "Varelyan", and "Varellyan" are used interchangeably in Adventure 5.

Nitpicks aside, I love this compilation. The adventures and extra content are very fun and flavorful. I'm definitely going to run adventures 3 and 4 with my groups in the coming weeks and I'll write a review after we finish them.

I'd love to see a spoopy Wild Magic table next.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
