Make Your City Streets Come Alive

Tired of generic random encounter results? Want to give your players a trip to the city they’ll never forget? Ready to throw your book/tablet/dice at the wall if you roll “farmers arguing over a spilled cart” one more time?

This is the random encounter table for you.

This supplement has city-based encounters that should help inject humor, horror, and style into your players’ time in any city. They can help create side quests, story texture, and inspire unplanned adventures and actions.

Using One Night in the City offers DMs and players:

  • More than 50 city-based encounters (at the suggested price, that's just under two cents per encounter!)
  • Forgotten Realms-based content but easily adapted to homebrew or other settings
  • Weird, wonderful NPCs and events to inspire memorable game play
  • Encounters that uses official creatures (monsters and NPCs) for easy reference and use
  • Content that's ready to use NOW; emphasis is on playability, not onerous prep
  • Comes in both full color/illustrated and print friendly versions

Whether your party is really just spending one night in the city, or looking to do an extended crawl through the town, this supplement gives the basis for hours of thrilling and mysterious gameplay.

The supplement can be downloaded as the full/illustrated version or a print-friendly version.

Any chance you could adapt this to FG (Fantasy Grounds)?

Great supplement. I always have a hard time trying to come up with Urban Encounters without making it seem like I am railroading the players. This supplement will offer interesting, side quests and add flavor to your game for your players. Thanks.

Thanks, Alex! I have the same challenge - which is why I made this. I hope the content adds some memorable encounters to your game.

Austin: Thanks! That was simply an error in the native file; a page break was pushed to the top of the next page. It's been fixed and the corrected version has been uploaded. I appreciate the heads up on it.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
