I'm confused with how they escape the cultists in the chase? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Xavier,
It is helpful to refer to the DMG notes on chases P252-255, I also found the following link helpful
But specifically as the characters start 100ft ahead of the cultist I allowed characters who got 200ft ahead to roll stealth compared to the cultists perception (as a group). 200ft in a twisty city street gives ample opportunity to "disappear". If the chase id dragging give the players advantage. The balance here is to highlight landmarks, my chase finished with only one of the landmarks being passed.

I hope this helps.

I played through this adventure yesterday with MELBDDAL. After having played all the Tier 1 adventures in this series, I enjoyed the continuity that exists between the first four adventures. It was good to reach the conclusion of this story arc, and to have a preview of what is to come in the Tier 2 adventures. Our game ran quite long, I think the biggest time component of the adventure was the first part. I didn't quite catch all the plot details at the end of the adventure so I am hoping that this will be recapped in DDAL09-05! I have enjoyed running an Aasimar Paladin for the past three adventures, and under the Season 9 rules was able to make use of their wings in the chase scene. There was another situation in which I could have used the wings, but I won't spoil it for other players!

A Potion of Growth is detailed in the character reward section, but is not explicitly mentioned in the main text. Is this the potion held by Hastrine?

Yes, this is the potion of growth mentioned on page 7.

Couple of errors found:

Wellum Smith is erroneously described in one parenthetical section as a human make "soldier" (bold-font stat block) rather than "guard" (as he's described in a sidebar elsewhere) in Part 2 (There is no stat block for a soldier).

In Part 2, the secret drawer in the desk refers the DM to the treasure block, but nothing related is mentioned there. Is this an orphaned reference from an older draft that needs to be deleted from the final text?

Also, the alley is the second bonus is mis-spelled as "ally" in Bonus Objective B in the section with the drunken NPC.

The previous adventure says Gharizol is a barbed devil. This one has him as a bearded devil. Why the discrepancy?

[minor spoilers]

Hi Nick, thanks for the question! These adventures are designed to scale from level 1 through 4, and the devil faced depends on the strength of the party. Obviously a level 1 party can't take on a CR 5 barbed devil! You will see in the "Adjusting the Scene" box that, for weaker parties, it is a spined devil, for average parties, it is a bearded devil, and for stronger parties, it is a barbed devil. This is a pretty common method of scaling these adventurers over an entire tier.

Devils cheat. Devils lie.

One better. The devil got his extra strip and his promotion came through. Now they can afford to get marry to a hellspawn.

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
