Updated! With a new template, new art, and maps! If you've already purchased Witches of Westwater, simply redownload it to get the new content!

Early one morning the party stumbles into Westwater, a small town that is holding a witch trial after some children began acting strangely. Three women have been accused of being witches. The town is split about their guilt and so decide to allow the party to be impartial judges. The party must render its verdict at dusk with any guily party being hanged til death.

The Witches of Westwater is a straight-forward investigation one-shot designed to help new DM's grow into the role or experienced DM's implement a short adventure with very little prep time. The focus is on dynamic encounters, interesting NPC's, and making the players feel clever. It includes everything a DM needs to run the adventure, including:

  1. Three original, high-definition maps of each combat encounter!
  2. Easy personalities and appearances for each NPC to help with roleplaying.
  3. A simple, satisfying story.
  4. Tips on each encounter along with relevant rule clarifications and notes.
  5. A spell list so that you don't have to look them up.
  6. An alternate ending for DM's who like to twist the dagger.

The Witches of Westwater is balanced around a party of four level 5 characters.

I loved this one-shot! It was a lot of fun, and it was a great way to re-introduce a player to 5e. I was looking for a good one shot to re-introduce a friend of mine who, like me, played AD&D back in the day. I had been trying to convince hi [...]

I ran this as a one-shot for several several different groups of people, and found out that this is great for both begginners and experienced players. Some slight modifications that I did that seemed to make it more enjoyable and seemed useful when run [...]

Really nice adventure! The best part is how the various NPCs were already fleshed out in their behaviours, so it was very easy to jump in right away. Very littl prep needed and a very charming story. Too bad my players didn't spend much time in th [...]

My 3 player party and I truly enjoyed this one shot! With just one short break we finished just at three hours. The characters were quirky and fun. The encounters were spaced evenly. I really enjoyed when party had the realization that they shouldn't [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
