The Perfumer's Daughter

ADD TO WISHLIST >

When her father goes missing, a young adventurer has no other choice than to gather her friends and head for the city of Loudwater. Soon after she gets swept away in an obscure design threatening to drag the entire region into chaos and war. At the heart of this mystery, lies not only her father, but the long-forgotten history of her once-despised family and a primordial beast influencing events from the shadows, moving her family like pieces on a chess board.

The Perfumer's Daughter is a full-length campaign taking four to six characters from level 1 to level 18.

Visit www.perfumersdaughter.com for more information. You can also address me directly on The Perfumer's Daughter Q&A on Facebook.

Just wondering if anyone could give me some advice, I'm planning on running this but I would like to move the campaign from Loudwater to Yartar a little further north. If this gonna cause alot of problems? My players and I arnt to clued up on the whole lore of the Forgotten Realms so most places are interchangeable, Im only wanting to change it so I can weave in some references to events from previous campaigns that were around that area.

There will be quite a few loose ends for the bigger lore-buffs. However I don't see a problem if your group is more laid back and casual in that regard.

Very excited for this! Would this campaign be compatible for running mostly theatre of the mind? Also is the book ready to print and because there's no print on demand could I get your permission?

Is it passible to use it for higher level characters? Our group is level 12. Any suggestions how would we jump into it?

It is difficult to jump into the story at a middle point, since it's all tied together. The story in itself is playable at all levels of course, but the problem lies in encounter difficulty. What you could do is adjust the encounters. I warn you, this will be quite a bit of work. The DMG has good rules to help define the difficulty of the encounter. To be honest, if I were to do this, I would agree with the players that they wouldn't advance in level until they got to they point where the story is developed for level 12 characters (You can find when this is at the end of chapter 0). I would adjust all encounters up to that point and then stop adjusting. Added bonus... it becomes harder and harder to construct encounters for higher level characters, this way you don't have to do through that particular ordeal.
Ik hope this helps.

Do you have the individual files for handouts (zipped) rather than a pdf? I would like to use them with tabletop software but the pdf makes it a much more manually intensive process. I found that the digital maps were downloadable separately but not the handouts.

I don't have them at present. But I could look into that for you. Would indeed be a little easier for people to play on tabletop software.

How are you liking it otherwise?

I'll do an update once I've had more time with it. Too early to tell but it looks promising.

Jason, I've made the handouts for Chapter 1 available on the website under free downloads. I will add Chapter 2 today.

The other chapters will follow in the weeks to come, making sure this doesn't affect your gameplay.

I suggest you join us on The Perfumer's Daughter Q&A on Facebook, where I will post updates and keep people informed. You can ask any and all follow-up questions there.

Yes, that is very helpful. I have completely read through Chapter 0 -2 so far. Been busy and I like to take my time with it. I like what I have seen thus far. Some great references and you do a good job of detailing the npc's motivations and reasoning. This is very helpful. Absolutely love the gossip sections. I haven't finished reading it but I am confident I will run what I have read.. Usually when I read adventures, I spot instances where I will make changes but so far I haven't seen any need to change what you have. This is good stuff.

You’ll discover the rest is up to par with the first chapters. The only chapter I’m not completely happy with is chapter 5. But that’s my overly critical and perfectionist nature. Chapter 5 was inherently very difficult to write, because I wanted to do a cinematic siege without scripting it.
Now, it has been tested and it works (it uses a system we’ve been using for quite some time). It can be used as a template for other sieges and even regular battles in the field, which was my intent.
The thing is that that chapter is a bit heavy on the combat and a little bit lighter on the story. And that’s not something I prefer personally.

I am one of the playtesting DM's. I have been involved in this project for the last few years and have run this module 3 times in that time.

I can only say that the module keeps amazing you as a DM because of it's well thought-out structure. It also engages you as a DM. The story is written in a way that it takes you as a DM on a voyage of discovery, it practically feels like reading an annotated novel.

The sheer respect for the setting and the way the story weaves itself into it, is a testament to the skill of the author.

The possibilities in the story are legion and I'd dare to say that even going through half of the content it has to offer, will leave you and your players with a deep, immersive experience.

I also love the fact that the opponents feel "real". They aren't two-dimensional, black-white statblocks, but have their own motivations, quirks and gimmicks. These come to life in the module but also in the backstories published by the author...See more

I couldn't NOT love this. There is so much passion poured into this project, so much content, so much imagination. The price is insanely cheap for a product that vast. Percy is a new voice in the Guild but I am willing to listen to EVERYTHING he has to say. I am so, so regretting not having an actual account so that I could give this a 5*. I hope my plain discussion post counts. People, GET THIS.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
