Hamund's Harvesting Handbook: Volume 2

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Welcome back dear reader to another installation of Hamund’s Harvesting Handbook. By now I’m sure you’ve all cut your teeth on the monsters and creatures featured in Volume I of this series and have come back hungry for more. Well you are in luck, because I have spent the interim hunting and harvesting all of the monsters featured in that seminal work; Volo’s Guide to Monsters (written by another man who appreciates the value of good branding) and have prepared yet another catalogue of the natural riches to be found in the creatures around us.

But wait, there’s more! I have brought back secret spells from forgotten lands, filled a list of new items to craft, and even compiled a compendium of the needy people I met on my travels in the hopes that my readers may lend them a helping hand. The book you hold in your hands is more than just an instruction manual, it is a veritable travel guide to adventure!

So, indulge yourselves dear readers in the knowledge that I have gained and now pass onto you. Discover how to skin a sea spawn, gut a grung, and debone a devourer (which is quite a difficult feat considering they are almost nothing but bones). Learn how to craft powerful weapons from the spoils of your hunts, as well as wield new magic to aid you in your work. The sky is the limit in our profession, and even the old dogs among you could still stand to learn a few new tricks.

Good luck and good harvesting,

- Sir Hamund Holderhek, O.B.H. (First Class), V.A., N.K.P.

---------------------

This is the follow-up to the ADAMANTINE bestselling book Hamund's Harvesting Handbook, covering the monsters featured in Volo's Guide to Monsters. As before, this book aims to act as a handy reference for DM’s with loot hungry players that just want to carve up anything they have killed. This volume covers the monsters included in Volo’s Guide to Monsters, and as before, features a complete harvesting list for each monster, as well as over 80 new magical items to craft.

The rules for harvesting and crafting are unchanged, but this book does add a few more interesting pieces to add to your harvesting adventures. Premiering in this book are new NPC merchants to provide services to harvesters, 6 new spells designed to help harvesters, as well as a job board for every monster in the Monster Manual and Volo’s Guide to Monsters to help DMs make harvesting-based quests on the fly.

Everything has been written with balance in mind, but you are of course feel free to rebalance anything in this guide to suit your own table, or feel free to message me at driftersgameworkshop@gmail.com or hit me up on Twitter @drifterworkshop to discuss anything in this guide.

Features:

  • A loot table for every single monster in Volo's Guide to Monsters, with flavourful descriptions of items that DM's can use as plot hooks for small side quests and adventures.
  • Over 80 new craftable magic items, made from the materials your players harvest from their kills.
  • A new set of pickpocket/trinket tables for humanoids
  • A quest board featuring every single monster from both the Monster Manual and Volo's Guide to Monsters, designed to be used by DM's to make simple quests on the fly
  • Rules for harvesting, crafting, special tools, and new proficiencies
  • 6 new NPC's to expand the services needed by harvesters
  • 6 new spells with a harvesting theme

Is there going to be a Fantasy Grounds Mod for this or Volume 3 like Volume 1 has?

Love the books, have all 3, my players love being able to harvest parts from monsters to create. I was just looking over vol 2 yesterday and I noticed that there is no item entry for "Potion of Lightning Blood" from the Death Kiss entry. This is both true on the pdf and the Fantasy Grounds version.

Probably a pointless question to ask but I just wanted to confirm this.
Does bloodhunter lenses allow you to see in magical darkness?
Was wondering because it's capabilities as a rare item seems like it would?

Hi! I noticed while reading that the Transfusion spell says it deals 14 necrotic damage. Was this on purpose? Reading the spell it seems as though it was meant to have a dice roll instead, since 14 damage would go over ever size category's Threshold, and the spell is phrased as though it is not a certainty.

Any thoughts on adding artificers to the spell list or proficiency? Every other class feels like they get love but we who LOVE crafting/inventing feel out of the loop. My group loves the book btw.

Hello,
First of all, let say that I am really liking the books, both vol 1 and vol 2, I am looking forward to vol 3 and more. :)

With that said, I hope you don't mind me giving a small suggestion. Would it be possible to add a section for the Harvesting kit using the rules of the "Tool Proficiency" section of "Xanathar's Guide to Everything"? Currently I am using your book and the "The Complete Armorer's Handbook" on my game, and I noticed that on yours there is no rules for using the harvesters kit in order to gain advantage on other skills, as per described on the section before mentioned. I will, obviously, make one to my table, but I would love to see something on the "official" books!

Anyway, I am looking forward for the vol.3!

Cheers.

Also, as an additional note: the section "New Proficiency: Harvesting Kit" from vol 2 seems incomplete compared to Vol 1. the notes from the Hermit and Outlander background are missing on Vol. 2. I am not sure if this was intentional, but I am hoping not, cause I liked those notes. :)

Do you have a rough estimate as to when Vol. 3 will be out? I can honestly say that Hamund's Harvesting Handbook: Volume 3 is currently on my top 3 most anticipated releases of the year as of late. Right after BG3

I'm considering taking the Cold Storage spell, and wondered if you could clarify something; if the duration is infinite for a dead creature and you don't have to make concentration checks, can you only store one body at a time, as if still concentrating? Just checking for if the DM throws a bounty at us with multiple targets.

As in, can I have multiple instances of it running simultaneously for when there is more than one encounter that produces a body to be preserved? or would I have to undo the casting, then redo it with a higher level slot for the additional target.

Going through the PDF:

Potion of corrupted strength. The item states that it can be crafted with Annis hag blood, but the Hag entry states that it is the hair of a Annis hag or a Bhuer hag that can be used to craft the potion.

Potion of Lightning Blood. The Death Kiss entry has Potion of Lightning Blood as a craftable item from it's blood. However, no such item exists within the items section.

In the spells section, transfusion states that the spell deals 14 necrotic damage on a successful hit. It continues to state that if you deal more damage than a creature's drain threshold based on size (of which a gargantuan creature has a drain threshold of 9) it must make a Constitution saving throw. If you cast a higher levels, it does an addition 1d4 damage.

Is this spell's initial damage supposed to be 1d4 rather than 14? Otherwise, it would always deal more damage than the damage threshold of a creature and always require a saving throw.

I love this series and I think both books will be a main-stay for me. I like how its build and segmented allowing a dungeon master to easily make changes and additions themselves and it can easily be custom fitted to most campaigns. Honestly this is the exact kind of content I like to see on dmsguild.

Another good addition to the monster harvesting rule set. Is there any plans for future expansions ? Even including the creature codex or tome of beasts.

Volume 3 covering Mordenkainen will most definitely be coming. I'll be cooking up something special in there to make it a worthy addition to the series (like how Volume 2 added the quest board)

Unfortunately, Tome of Beasts and Creature Codex arent WOTC properties so Im unable to make a book featuring those monsters here on the DMs Guild. Wouldve been nice though!

Hey Jeffrey,

Super happy with this product. I am really enjoying using it to expand the potential for my players.

I am just writing to ask if you had a rough ETA for Volume 3? I know these things take a LOT of time, I am eagerly awaiting. Mordenkainens Tome has a heavy influence on many of the creatures in my campaign and I'm super keen to implement it.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
