Elemental Compendium I: Creatures of the Inner Planes

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This supplement contains a wide variety of elementals that are ideal for both DM's and players. With CR's ranging from 1/4 all the way to 30, this supplement has monsters compatible with every level of play, and the majority of the elementals are compatible with the conjure minor elementals and conjure elementals spells, presenting players with a wide variety of new options for summoning.

On the lower end of the CR spectrum, we have a new selection of mephits, including acid mephits, lightning mephits, and mephits inspired by the three main elements of alchemy: mercury, salt, and sulfur. Moving on from that to the CR 2 options, there are the elemental grues and elemental stewards, both of which offer unique roleplay and combat capabilities to both DM's and players, not to mention the lesser elementals.

In the CR 5 range, I have a myriad of elementals based on the conjunction of other elements, such as steam, dust, ice, and smoke. In addition, there are the horror elementals: hateful, elemental embodiments of sins made real, perfect for Ravenloft and other horror campaigns. And above that, ideal for 9th level castings of conjure elemental, are the greater elementals.

This supplement also contains new monsters for DM's, such as the avatars of elemental evil, one of the last remaining remnants of the unity that the Cult of the Elder Elemental Eye once had, and the elemental monoliths, elementals of power close to that of the princes themselves!

Above even those are the four Princes of Elemental Good: the brave Ben Hadar, the wise Chan, the stalwart Sunnis, and the kind Zaaman Rul. These forces represent opposition to the cults of elemental evil.

Finally, there are the primordials: ancient beings of the old world whose very presence spells doom for the mortal races. There are statistics for Cryonax, the lord of Frostfell who yearns to see all life extinguished, and Solkara, a being embodying the pure churning chaos of the ancient earth. Both of these monstrosities present a real and existential threat to the world as a whole. Now featuring full illustrations of both Cryonax and Solkara!

Are the Elemental Princes in this book comparable in challenge rating to the ones that appear in the Princes of the Apocalypse storyline? Wondering because, according to 3e lore, Imix beat Zaaman Rul in a duel that nearly led to his death.

Yep! Zaaman Rul is obviously weaker than Imix, of course. When I have a moment I'll make the description of the supplement a little more explicit about CR.

The Lesser Ice Elemental has a Strength, Dexterity and Constitution of 0.

Also, what is your method for deciding proficiency bonuses? Those seem to be inconsistent.

Love the Cryonax art by the way.

Proficiency bonuses are decided by the intended CR, as described in the DM's Guide. Would you be willing to point out some places where you see inconsistencies?

Also, thank you for pointing out the oversight on the lesser ice elemental. I use a template for filling out stat blocks, so I'm liable to overlook those from time to time. I'll fix that asap!

As for the Cryonax art, I'm glad you like it! It's by Ryan van Dongen! He's on Artstation and is a pleasure to work with!

A couple others that I saw. Cryonax himself should have a +14 to hit with his XXX and tentacle attacks since his base strength is a +7 with a proficiency of +7. His base stealth is also getting a boost of +11 which should be either 7 or 14 (if expertise).

Black Rock Triskelion is getting a +14 to it's Con save when it should be a +12.

On a separate note, Acid elemental's touch attack is also missing a couple of things. Lesser Ice Elemental's attack also says it has a +9 to hit.

I believe Zaaman Rul is only benefiting from a +5 proficiency with it's skills and saves when it should be a +6.

A couple other things but I don't wanna be that guy.

Please tell Ryan that he did an amazing job on Cryonax.

No by all means, be that guy! I have a hard time finding reliable proofreaders, so any and all critique you can give me is more than welcome!

I'm going to be publishing a new supplement in a week and I'm scrambling to try to prevent these exact same issues from coming through on that supplement as well, so I don't have the time to rectify those issues at this very moment, but I will get on that as soon as I can.

Again, please feel free to give me as much critique as you feel is pertinent! I always appreciate constructive criticism!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
