Malar: The Beastlord Compendium

"Gather the faithful. The time has come for a Great Hunt."

Malar: The Beastlord Compendium

The Forgotten Realms god of the hunt is feral, wild, and vicious: Malar is the dark side of nature. The civilized people of Faerûn might pray to Malar out of fear or before hunting. But they also forbid worshiping him and loathe his followers, considering them savage murderers.

Assembled from the vast collection of knowledge contained within Candlekeep's Great Library—along with all-new information—Malar: The Beastlord Compendium details everything there is to know about Malar, his followers, their faith, and their practices, rites, and sacrifices.

Malar: The Beastlord Compendium is a resource for Dungeon Masters and players alike, featuring new character options to inspire and flavor your game.

I would like to translate your collection into my native language for free use by my compatriots. This is not a commercial transfer and I will not get paid for it. Will you let me do that? Thank you for your work!

Hello, James! Thank you for your collection. Great stuff.
I noticed a lot of strange numbers in the creatures statblock.
Why does the Adept of Malar have a Dexterity of 11 (+0), but a AC of 14 (hide armor). And why does he have a +6 to hit? And this is found in many statblocks. Is this how it should be?
Thank you for your work!

Are the spells available to any spellcasting class or just Cleric and/or Druid?

Designed just for those, but I'd talk with your DM to see if it's allowed. Most are reskinned spells with the same dice/results as existing spells--just with different visuals.

I noticed a minor type regarding Circle of the Blood Moon. It's mentioned that they start obtaining benefits from the circle at level 1, but the Druid doesn't choose their circle until level 2.

I just want to add that I absolutely LOVE this book. Malar always seemed underrated in previous editions and never got the love that he deserved and continually undermentioned to supplements. This book does him justice. I'm planning on making a Changeling Blood Hunter (Order of the Lycan)/Druid (Circle of the Blood Moon) follower of Malar character in the nearby future.

Hello there. One question regarding the Beast of Malar: How did you get to this CR and why do I think these numbers don't fit? I think some of these numbers are way to high (+18 to hit?, AC 23? in wolverine form - not even dragons have +18 to hit or AC23) and some are very low - just 89HP - for CR11 this does not fit.
I'll try to re-work this monster as I will need it. You can't just take the numbers from 3e and copy them to a 5e stat block.

Should Wolfspawn be classified as Undead?

Yes. If I forgot to add that classification, it would be a mistake on my part. Sorry about that.

No problem at all. I love your book. I was doing the KFC file for it, and had added the Undead classification, but wanted to be sure there wasn't a reason not to do so.

Do the supernatural gifts follow the same template as explorers guide to wildemount?

I've never seen the Explorers Guide to Wildemount, so I'm not sure how those relate. The Supernatural Gifts in Malar: The Beastlord Compendium were inspired by Chapter 7: Rewards, Supernatural Gifts section of the 5e Dungeon Master's Guide.

Alright, in Lore wise, NPC options, Plot hooks, world creation, etc, this supplement is exceptional, it's great for DMs and the Lycanthrope options for players is really good and more balanced than the Monster Manual's options. One of the few things that needs improvement is The Circle of the Blood Moon, cause it doesn't add much things for the Druid, it's highly situational and the Circle of The Moon is still a better option for it adds more features to the character. The Circle of the Blood Moon could give more options for Wild Shape, change the mechanic of Apex Predator to work with all kinds of hostile creatures or alt least with beasts and humanoids and it needs a more distinguished feature at the 1/2 level than two cantrips.
The Bestial Domain for Clerics is pretty neat, still a little situational but it has amazing and distinguished abilities. The only thing that bothered me was the Druid Cicle, besides that it's an amazing supplement, congratulations!

James Welch has created the only guide to Malar you'll ever need, and has upped the quality even further by adding a rich variety of Player Options for Lycanthrope and other Malarite themes. This book is easily rated 5 Stars, and is a "Must Have" both for Forgotten Relams Lore fans, and Lycanthrope lovers.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
