Retrieve a lost artifact in the Mournland... if you have the heart for it.

Battle through the eleventh adventure of the Across Eberron: Convergence Manifesto adventure path with this adventure for 6th level characters. Written for use with either Eberron: Rising from the Last War or the Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron by Keith Baker.

Adventure Summary: A Heart in Mourning is a dungeon crawl and survival adventure that takes the party through the mists into the strange and dangerous Mournland, where they encounter threats both environmental and living. The party has been given a map with the task of retrieving the Steelheart from Ash Tower, where the Provost’s research has led them under direction by Guild Handler Lhara. Their destination lies in the middle of a manifest zone of Shavarath. Once there, the party will have to survive a tower climb filled with fiends, demons, and more in order to retrieve the Steelheart, a powerful artifact guarded by a powerful guardian.

Across Eberron (www.acrosseberron.com) is an Eberron community project that aims to tell the stories and exploits of heroic characters in Eberron and introduce players--new and experienced--to the wonderful lore and rich history the setting has to offer. Edited by Will Brolley, Wayne Chang, and Laura Hirsbrunner, along with executive producer Keith Baker.

About the Authors:

Chad Justis is a teacher and musician from Southern New Jersey where they eat hoagies, put jimmies on their ice cream, and drink ‘wooder.’ Being thrust into the Dungeon Master position very early on in his D&D experience (in 4e no less!) has led him to explore and create using many different resources as he continues to practice and improve his skills as DM and PC alike. Currently, Chad DMs for an Eberron 5e actual-play podcast called DADcast: A D&D Podcast where he crafts a hopefully compelling narrative with his goofball group of friends as well as arranges and composes music to accompany their shenanigans. This is Chad’s first formal written adventure meant for publishing and he is both excited and concerned that everyone will discover his true identity as three cats in a trench coat.

Aaron Killeen has been gaming since middle school with 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons. The release of Eberron prompted him to begin the role of DM and he has held the mantle in almost continuous Eberron campaigns in all iterations of the game since. By day, Aaron works in public education, but at all other times he is hopelessly addicted to indoctrinating his wife and two kids to RPGs, board games, mini and terrain painting/collecting, and most things geeky.

There is no map of the location of the destination or the route the PCs take to get there.

Hi, Chad here, one of the writers.

The Mournland is not a strictly mapped out location due to the nature of the strange effects of the Mournland. The PCs have a general idea of where they should be heading based on the layout of the former nation of Cyre, but it is not necessary for the adventure for them to have a clear cut route to Ash Tower. Between the dead-grey mist, the warped landscape, and the horrors they will be encountering and dealing with, having a clearly defined map would be unnecessary to include with the module. There is no canon location for the Ash Tower, so rather than create a map that might contradict any future canon releases (eg hardcover or Keith's supplement), we left it to DM discretion. If you need a location for purposes of your own game, we suggest placing it in the Field of Ruins, though this is not confirmed by canon. We hope this helps!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
