The Story

While many know legends or stories about mythical artefacts granting immortality, the gnomish scholar and archaeologist Ardell Hoyt is certain he’s found one. For many years, he’s been studying dusty tomes and ancient inscriptions, which could lead him to the thing he desires the most: a way to cheat death. He believes there exists a lighthouse on the border between this life and what lies beyond, its light guiding the dead to their final rest. However, should a living soul ever manage to bathe in its divine light, eternal life and wisdom would be granted to it. After all this time, he’s certain to have found the path to the afterlife, located underground in the “Cave of Lights”. Together with your party of adventurers, he’s ready to see his life’s work fulfilled.

In this 3- to 4-hour one shot, a party of 3rd to 4th level characters will venture through the Cave of Lights and discover if Ardell Hoyt’s theories are correct. Will they survive the trip through the cave? Could immortality really be within their grasp? Is it safe, to “Follow the Lights”?

Hi. Great campaign.
I couldn't help to notice something, though. The initial riddle, by the great carved door, is it based on the song Old Black Train from Over the Garden Wall?
If so, brilliant use of the reference! If not, what a weird coincidence lol

Hi Angel
Thank you for your download and kind comment. You have a good memory for lyrics - yes, one of our members is a big fan of Over the Garden Wall and we all agreed the kind but foreboding line from the song "Weren't you someone's son? How'd you find this depot 'cause it ain't where you belong" was perfect for the mood of this adventure. I believe there's another reference hidden somewhere in our adventure "Weather the Storm" ;-)

This shows up in a search when filtered for second tier (5th-10th level) adventures. Not sure if there was some tag or something that was mis-clicked.

I understand this is PWYW but you have a few problems here. No cover included with the download. No credits to show where anything came from, who wrote it, if it was edited, etc. Worst of all, there is no WotC legal text included that is a legal requirement to be able to publish on the guild.

You need to fix up the problems, especially with the legal text before you get into trouble. I suggest you take a long hard look at the FAQ page on what has to be done to be able to publish on the guild.

Dear Ken

Thank you for bringing this to our attention - we're pretty new to putting content on DM's Guild and have overlooked the requirements for the legal text. We'll make to fix this mistake for all our releases as soon as possible.

Kind regards

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
