Imperial Class (5e) - Inspired by Etrian Odyssey IV

"When raw force isn’t sufficient, you aren’t using enough."

Imperials specialize in the ways of Drive Weapons, modified armaments designed to unleash exceedingly powerful attacks. They can pinpoint and abuse an enemy's weak spots by knocking down the target, or through unleashing powerful elemental blows. They center around dealing massive damage in singular strikes, rather than protracted damage through multiple small attacks per turn. As they gain experience, imperials learn new attacks to unleash and features that help make the most out of every swing.

The Imperial is a 5e class inspired by a class of the same name from Etrian Odyssey IV. The goal of this class was to create a player option with similar damage output to melee Fighters or Paladins, but with more complex decision making and combat abilities while staying mostly true to the source material.

If you decide to give Imperial a try, please let me know how it went in the reviews/discussions! I'd love to hear what you think.

Just found this in time for a steampunk game I'm playing in, its a perfect fit! I have some concerns about how characters of the class could be differentiated from each other but its generally really good. I might suggest having the option for one handed weapon use, but lowering the damage they do in return for them possibly offering greater mobility(along with the extra attack).

Enlightenment recharge your drive attack when you roll 1 or 10 on the d10 right?

Sharp Edge. this feature is well contextualized, i suggest that this damage is fire (although is not specified the type of damage, i presume it's weapon damage). However, this feature could be a bit unbalanced, add your proficiency to all damage is something that only hexblade (as i recall) can do for a minute using hexblade curse. Maybe you can add this extra damage only on the first attack.

The class is interesting as your choice to not implement archetypes, I don't express myself about other features as regards balancing because I would have to test it in game. I'll introduce this class to my players and let you know (we play in a steampunk homebrew world so, it fits well)

Hey thanks for your feedback! Enlightenment is written to recharge on the two highest values of the die, so 9 or 10 on the d10, but as long as you're using two of the numbers on the die it doesn't really matter.

Your input on sharp edge made a lot of sense to me so I've made it fire damage in the new update. I'm not too worried about sharp edge being unbalanced at the moment, as unlike hexblade this class never gets extra attacks.

I've also added some new content in the newest version. It's not quite archetypes, but now players will have the choice to opt for offensive or defensive features at 3rd, 7th, and 13th level that they can swap after taking a long rest. I hope you and players will enjoy it, I'd love to hear how it works for you.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
