The Mourned: A Playable Undead Race

Thanks so much for checking out this supplement and for your feedback! It's always great to hear others' perspectives, and I do recognize that some of the subclass features are a bit powerful. In all cases, I tried to offset them in ways that I felt left them balanced in the end.

The free misty step, for example, is only when in dim light or darkness, and that subclass also suffers from radiance vulnerability, giving them disadvantage on all attack rolls and Perception checks made in sunlight, along with vulnerability to radiance damage.

The fact that all of the subraces rejuvenate to 1 hp an hour after dying is offset by the fact that healing spells and other forms of magical healing do not work on you since they do not work on undead generally, so the odds are you're going to be getting dropped to 0 hit points *far* more often than most characters who get healed all the time by the party cleric.

As for the subrace with regeneration, it only occurs on the turn following...See more a turn on which you take damage, and I kept the amount of regeneration low (half your character level). You do not simply keep regenerating on every turn. Also, that subrace can't speak, severely limiting many of its game options.

But as with any rules, the DM is the final arbiter, and I encourage everyone to tailor the Mourned rules to suit their needs. Your suggestions for limiting the misty step to 1 or 2 per short rest and a ritual for regeneration sound fun, and if that works for you, by all means you should implement those restrictions in your game! :)
