Just got a message about this in my emails, and I have to say I love it. There's some strange wording in magic item classifications that don't match the DM's handbook, but it's fine enough that I don't mind. I find the class included to be a little off, though, which is unfortunate since it was why I was most interested in this (though it didn't stay that way and I find the rest of the book mostly excellent).

For example, the fact that ability score improvements are listed before some of your first level abilities through me off, and I didn't realize overwhelming presence was a first level ability for a few minutes. Then there's the fact that it starts with "Cultists use teamwork by nature." This is odd because the feature has nothing to do with teamwork. And while the ability itself is interesting, it curious that it has no set time limit, where most abilities like this usually do (though this isn't a deal breaker).

Then there's the ritualists dependency on a cantrip for...See more

I seriously appreciate the feedback. You're spot on about ability score improvements being flipped with overwhelming presence, I'll fix that.

The ritualist using unseen scribe to create the circles for their ability was supposed to be thematic, but if it's confusing to say "you use an action to use cantrip to use ability" which yeah does sound a bit confusing so that is a good point.

Also good point about the level 20 feature.

Can't thank you enough for the feedback!

Thanks for being receptive to it. I really do love this supplement (I didn't even mention how great the backgrounds are). The class, though, needs some work. And maybe a little more synergy with being a full caster that can go melee? This class isn't like the warlock that can at least speck into better melee abilities, where this class only really gets the Fanatic. And that is really neat, but that lack of survivability hinders it some.

One more critique; the Martyr is a fascinating class, but I feel as though relying in these temporary hit dice is a mistake. You already have to spend resources. Getting access to healing abilities at the cost of 'health is interesting, but the fact you have to have killed an enemy to use basically use the entire point of your class seems like a dependency that would lead to frustration because of the need to have these hit dice. It's especially odd because a 'martyr' sacrifices their own life force, not others. Transferance is great flavor wise, but it also seems...See more

I see you've made some changes. I haven't gotten to look at the meat and potatoes of it, but immediately there's one thing. For the sake of consistency, the 'Class specialization should be called 'cultist specialization'. As well, it seems very, very odd that pretty much all the classes features come from their subclass. Granted, it's not all of them; your spellcasting, spell list, and Distracting Presence are shared, but it's very odd that this is basically it. I'm not against it in principle, I just hope that this isn't to bizarre for a class.

Finally a flavor question; have you ever considered what the cultist believes in as a factor? Like a cleric or a paladin, they have beliefs. While not dedicated to a god, they might have a strange belief or a minor demon, devil, or thing from beyond reality they worship, maybe even just a cult of personality figurehead. Have you considered that while designing the class?

Side notes about distracting presence, the thing about using a bonus action...See more

To answer your second question first, the design goal of the class was to be generic and all encompassing so as to have a potential party consisting of only cultists if players wanted; feats, backgrounds, and other mechanics in the book are designed to let you create a cultist you want (I.E. a fire elemental cultist could choose the temperance feat(fire) and pyromania feat, the cultist background, the cultist class and hopefully feel pretty burny). Which, to your first question, is why most of the features come from the subclasses rather than from the core class.

For distracting presence, we want the player to be able to continue the effect against a single foe without using more of the limited charges available and still eat up a little action economy.

The beginning part of ritual circle says it takes an action and lasts until the start of your next turn.

Thanks again for more feedback, I changed the verbiage you (correctly) mentioned.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
