The Friend Folio

Behind every hero is a good sidekick, maybe even a few depending on how many heroes there are. The best sidekicks are people with their own story who just happen to be passing through the stories of the player characters.

The Friend Folio contains 20 sidekicks, that are built using the sidekick rules found in the Essentials Kit, and via Unearthed Arcana for levels higher than 6. They are made to be able to drop into your games with little effort to add some extra flavor to your game. An extra tank and a pocket healer are great, but they are even better if they have a fun and interesting personality.

I didn't understand why the characters had a stat for pronouns?

Because it is important to normalize asking for them in this day and age. Also not every NPC in the book has obvious pronouns. It is a thing I do now with all of my NPC blocks. I

Surely the appropriate pronoun depends on which sex they are? Confused.

Because some of the characters are Transgender, some are non-binary, and not every person's gender conforms to what they were born with.

Sorry, still somewhat confused. Is this something political?

I am going to go ahead and purchase your product despite my indifference to your agenda, because I have a intuitive notion that despite you including "preferred pronouns" as an NPC block you will have omitted meaningless things like "stats, equipment, and tactics preferred."

Happy "gaming" Richard.

You can find all the relevant stat blocks and gear here, or in the Essentials Kit. Sorry if that was not clear above. Happy Gaming Franklin!

There is a policy that requires you not to stat out the characters, gear them up, or did you decide not to do so?

As I said at FF2 I am certain there is a utility to this, I am not certain what the utility is.

I suppose this is for people unable to thumbnail together a set of motives, and such for the stat blocks they are to look up?

At any rate decent work.

It's a potentially interesting thing revealing something about their personality like how they see themselves. Same as "sexuality" or "spouse" or "favourite food" can reveal something interesting for a DM to toy around with.

Like any of these descriptors for a NPC you don't have to use it exactly as is if it confuses you... Tweak it to suit your own setting.

The previews just show Background-type stuff. Do they have stats at all? Like the Essentials Kit sidekicks?

You would use the stat blocks from the Essentials Kit, the warrior, spellcaster, or Expert. Or from the UA to take them to 20.

No they do not have stats, equipment, favorite sayings, nothing like it.

I also wonder why this is included as a "Ghosts of Saltmarsh" product when literally none of the back stories offered are tied in to Greyhawk or the setting's towns even in Forgotten Realms if you wove it in that I could discern.

The art is acceptable, some of it is even nice.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
