Psionics Handbook

Psionics have been a part of D&D for about as long as D&D has been a game, first introduced in a supplement in 1976. This is my take on the realm of far more subtle, hidden supernatural powers psionics tend to be.

Powered by a limited pool of psi points that you regain on a short rest, and supplemented by the ability to fuel their psionic abilities with their own hit points, psions have a much different feel than any other caster class thus far.

The core calculus of their resource expenditure differs from almost every class (with the possible exception of the Blood Hunter). Do they overextend paying with hit points to get more utility or potent attacks in? Do they have the Hit Dice and time for a short rest to recover these hit points? Because there's no other way to get them back. Or do they play it safe, and stick to their much more limited psi points, choosing not to augment their at-will talents at all once the psi points dry up?

Psions have the most at-will abilities in the game, hands down. They are, in fact, fundamentally designed as a primarily cantrip-based class. They often use their psi points and hit points not to manifest singularly potent abilities like a spellcaster does with a fireball spell (since they have nothing on par with such a spell), but instead to effectively buff their at-wills to push them a bit further on the fly, tailored to the situation at hand.

Psionic characters don't bring the raw power spellcasters usually do, but they have staying power, and their abilities are much sneakier, making them harder to pin down. As befits a group that, throughout fiction, tends to stick to the shadows or hide in plain sight. The only area in which psions are on par with or better than spellcasters in raw power is mental manipulation abilities.

If you're interested in a more subtle take on a caster, with unmatched versatility and consistency in exchange for notably less raw spikes of damage and comparable power, less ability to radically and blatantly change the world instantly for all to see, who can strike from plain sight without anyone being the wiser, psionics might be for you.

This is the full version of the Psionics Handbook. Below is a link to a free preview, which gives you the first five levels of the psion class, and an assortment of some of the core, defining psionic disciplines. It's a huge 46-page preview, but still nowhere near the full 127-page handbook:

None of the art seems to load anymore, was this updated recently?

The only art this product has ever had was the cover art, which is a major reason why the price is so low for a 127-page product.

Paying for art commissions or spending the sheer amount of time to do my own art for it (which I could, being an artist, but the time spent would be enormous) was simply out of my price range. If I ever make enough money on items like this, future products will certainly have commissioned art, and books like this one will as well (without changing the price, in all likelihood).

But no, this hasn't been updated recently, it simply never had interior art, to begin with; thus the only art attribution on the title page has always been for the cover itself.

I believe he means that the cover art is not loading, either. I have a link that shows on Page 1, and it goes to a pic, but it does not print out with the rest of the book.

As far as I can tell, the DM's Guild accepts credit and debit cards, or you can use a PayPal account to purchase products.

Do you have plans to make this available for VTT like Fantasy Grounds. (maybe talk to Rob Twohy ;-)

Hmm. I hadn't thought about that. Thanks for the suggestion/question (and pointing out a person to ask!). Something for me to research and see how feasible it is for me to do.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
