Volo's Volumes 1: Blights

ADD TO WISHLIST >

"One must understand that the twisted, vicious monsters known as Blights are a symptom of a much larger, fouler disease. Venturing out of corrupted, decayed lands awash in malicious energy and contaminated by evil, these creatures are driven by a singular desire: to expand." - Volothamp Geddarm

A printable player aid for 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons.

An idea brought to me by a patron, this condensed PDF is meant to be a booklet style player handout, much like the informational pamphlets one would find at a zoo, explaining in detail the ecology and manner of the creatures present in Dungeons and Dragons 5e such as Blights, Displacer Beasts, Etter Caps, and many many others. Here's what you can expect to find inside:

Excerpt from within!

  • Four unique styles, bundled into one. A stylized and printer friendly Landscape verison easy to read on computer monitors and tablets as well as a printer friendly and a Stylized printable booklet to hand directly to your players!
  • Custom blight art by CathalDraws on twitter specifically for this product.
  • A full write up of the life cycle of blights, from the spawning of a Gulthias tree to the collapse of the environment around the infestation of evil.
  • Details not found in just the monster manual including tactics, habits, skills, descriptions, and natural drive (in this case, to corrupt and destroy).
  • New monsters. Each volume will come with 1-3 new stat blocks to fill in the roles left in published material up to this point, such as the CR 3 Fungal Blight
  • An adventure hook for players in the form of a note written from Volo himself to his would-be investors. As your players send money, magic items, and support to the far-wandering Volo, he will treat them to more and more Volumes relating to creatures easily used in your own games! As more volumes are funded in-game (and here on DMs Guild), they will contain more and more information including tips for defeating the enemies, powerful magic item usages, and possibly DM charts for loot and descriptions as you'd find in Volo's Guide to Monsters, all coming soon.

"Blights" is an entertainingly gruesome exploration of a popular theme in many home campaigns: what if something wretched and plague-like infected the world you were already playing in? DropTheDie's guide, written thoroughly and lovin [...]

This is a great little volume with a new enemy for your players, presented in a nature documentary style (and as such I highly recommend reading it in the voice of David Attenborough). You get one stat block with several different subtypes of blight so [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
