Assault from the Astral

After crash-landing onto the Material Plane, a strange, otherworldly ship brings with it an unexpected wave of piracy, hideous creatures from the bottom of the Trackless Sea, and a notorious foe who has been awakened from the deep, intent on destroying the world as you know it.

The adventurers must set sail along the Sword Coast, fending off the pirate attacks while putting together the fractured puzzle that will reveal the true villain.

A Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition Campaign for characters from 1st - 12th level.

Has anyone used the Print option made available in the update yet? Would love to hear about the experience, I am interested in getting it done but have NO idea where to start. Only want a single copy for myself.

I know a few folks (including myself) who have done it successfully now. There should be a .txt document in the update that has a step-by-step process.

Yeah I read that .txt but I am also not super familiar with DrivethruRPG. Can I just have a single copy made, without worrying about other people ordering prints of it? About how much does it cost? Alternatively if someone wanted to sell me a hard copy I would be up for that as well.

You can yeah, it should cost about $30 plus shipping. Unfortunately, no one can sell you a hard copy. It violates the T&Cs of the DMsGuild. You have to print one yourself.

Yeah, I tried. May need to be more specific with the instructions. I've spent about 30 minutes trying to get it printed and still cannot figure it out. My players are enjoying the campaign thus far, though! Would just love to have a hard copy to show off, too.

I just ordered my "Proof" copy. It took me a little time to get it figured out and a few days for it to be "approved" but it looks like the creator is going to help you. Hope you get it figured out. I cannot wait to get my copy. This is up there with Curse of Strahd in my opinion as one of the best campaigns for 5e

This looks great, read and watched a couple of reviews that sing its praises and I've been looking for a illithid-centric adventure, but I really dislike the maps. I'm reluctant to use other maps as a lot of the reviews say the dungeon designs are great outside of the b&w map styl. Kinda a shame for such a colourful and well-presented product.

Any plans on getting a map pack for this? I notices some people are working on doing their own, I'm kinda too lazy to want to spend time remaking them myself, but I will if I have to I guess.

On the wishlist!

I'm sorry to hear you don't like the map style. I typically use these maps for two reasons;
1. Clarity. I find them easier to use and understand.
2. Price. I drew these maps myself using Dyson Logos maps in some instances as a base. To hire a professional to draw a colour map would cost upwards of $800 per map (in my experience). That's not something I can realistically afford to do when I only recieve 49% of the royalties from this product.

I will not be adding colour maps to this adventure at any point. However, there is a Discord server where folks are putting together some colour maps themselves to use:
https://discord.gg/75zUnSB

Hopefully this is enough to elevate the product for you!

Well we have scrapped the idea of using SKT at my table, everyone is in favour of running this. So, elevating the product is unnecessary: I'll definitely pick it up at some point :) The more I read about your work the more I want it!
I know art for business use can get expensive quick, especially if you need many pieces, its also a personal preference kinda thing, some people swear by b&w, isometric, old school blue etc.

Any way to buy this with you getting the lion's share of the profit? It seems really unfair on you, getting 49%....

There are a couple of us working to redo the maps into more highly detailed full-color images, as well as provide discussion and resources for DM's running the adventure, on the Ghosts of Saltmarsh discord. https://discord.gg/75zUnSB . So far we have new maps fully created for Chapter 1.

While it would be totally awesome for Call of the Deep to be allowed for the Adventurer's League, I'd wager that there's little chance of it. In general, only official WotC hardcovers (including Lost Mine of Phandelver and Dragon of Icespire Peak) are allowed to be used, outside of a few specially authorized guild adept adventures published during the Tomb of Annihilation season and some AL Admin created content designated as "Hardcovers". There was some special arrangement with WotC and the Adventurer's League when those guild adept adventures were deemed usable for AL play. This was around the time the Guild Adept program started. (see https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/news/guild-adept-program , https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/news/dms-guild-adept-news , and https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/news/guild-adept-content) Many of the guild adepts selected are currently or were previously a part of official organized play. I'd say you best bet is to contact the AL admin team (https://dndadventurersleague.org/contact-us/campaign-staff/)...See more

Thinking of getting this and run it after Storm King's Thunder. How hard would it be to adjust it for a party that would start this at level 11 or so?

Not too hard. You’ll need to select some more appropriate monsters, but the actual plot shouldn’t need to change at all!

Can you please elaborate on this? I have been having problems getting materials I purchased from the DM Guild professionally printed. The store refuses to print them because they are copyrighted and ask to see a letter from the IP holder allowing the print. I'd love to buy this adventure, but if I can't print it at home and I can't print it at a store then I'm not gonna bother - I'm not gonna run a 200+ pages adventure off of a computer screen.

I’m working on files that will make it easier for a commercial printer to print, rather than the basic pdf available now.

OneBookShelf (who run DMsGuild) will not allow me to offer a Print on Demand option, so this is my best shot at helping people get it printed.

I am more than happy to write you a letter of permission. Shoot me an email at jvcparry@hotmail.com

Hi Parry,

First off I am a huge fan of your content, and this will be my first time running one of your campaigns. I've previously tried DMing Out of the Abyss, and did a relatively poor job given my party's playstyle and my inexperience DMing at the time.

We have a unique situation with our group where we will have approximately four dedicated members for a weekly 3-4hr. session, with two other players occasionally rotating in and out. Beyond that, some other players will want to DM on occasion, which I am hoping will provide me a good opportunity to see their DM styles and hopefully improve my own. To try and make sure everyone is happy, I've thought about running Call From the Deep, and in those instances where others want to DM we can simply say that we've stopped off at some strange island (however you'd like to phrase it) for a short rest. Both as an opportunity to meet new PCs (myself if others are DMing for the session, and potentially one of the non-dedicated players).

Hi Gideon,

Thanks for your support! The more practice you get DMing, the better you’ll become! I’d also suggest reading Chris Perkins’s ‘The DM Experience’ and the YouTube videos by Matt Colville and Matthew Mercer!

Your plan sounds perfect to me! When the party stop off on various islands your friends can take a turn DMing. I’d definitely suggest Shore of Dreams as it’s already set on an island! Similarly, most of the Serpent Isle material should be usable, as well as Sanguine Sacrament.

The dino adventures are actually by Phil of PB Publishing (we work together on a lot of stuff, but not on those specific adventures), but they would also be a good fit! Warriors of Sehanine is set in the woods near Baldur’s Gate, so could definitely be used if you’re in that area!

Best of luck running the campaign! Feel free to reach out to me on Facebook or twitter if you need any more advice! You’ll find my as JVCParry in both places.

Man! this adventure looks soooo good! But my whole group is level 11!!! I've always wondered why adventure authors don't make the same adventure for different levels? The hardest part is the story right? Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to take the same story and make a version of it that's for levels 10-15 or something?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
