I'm trying to wrap my head around Chapter 2. I do understand that the pirate attacks happen the night after the PCs arrive and then there's some quests to do AFTER, but in some of the Development text suggests the PC discover more than just the impending pirate attack during the less than 24 hours or so they have. For example, Castle Never mentions something about the PCs discovering the Abolethic Sovereignty as the cause of the pirate attack. I do realize they can visit the Temple of Oghma based on wanting the decipher the code on the map, but I'm a bit stumped for a reason for them to check out the other locations (particularly the black dragon lair in the floating earth mote).

Tangential Note: My PCs are sailing back to Neverwinter after completing Chapter 1 and they actually have 2 pirate maps: the original from the wreck of the Golden Crown (with Waterdeep circled) and similar one with Neverwinter circled. The latter was brought by a replacement party member (they lost one of their number when...See more

I've assumed that the characters don't just wait around for the pirates to attack, and that they're interested in why they might be attacking the city. The locations on the maps are major locations that the characters might decide to visit while they're investigating this. Of course, it might be the case that your characters just want to sharpen their swords and sit in their tents!

Ah, thanks, JV. I think I'm picturing the situation a little bit clearly now. If they don't get it into their heads to check around the city for reasons of why/when the pirates might attack, then maybe the Lords Alliance/Neverember can suggest it to them.

Probably one last thing: how they would even know to check out that black dragon lair (for example)? Is it a known location that a black dragon lives there? (I know it's easily seen, being an earth mote floating above the city).

Sorry for the questions. It's been a fun campaign so far and I love the module. Just a little unclear on the pirate attacks.

Glad you're enjoying it so far! The dragon specifically can be discovered through a few other clues. Take a look at Fisher's Float for some more info.

I recently updated to an updated version of this. I noticed that Sea King Tentrix's Map now has waterdeep circled, but can't find out why only Waterdeep was circled.

Hi there.

I'm thinking about picking this up and I'd like to run it in Foundry. What version should I buy for jpeg maps etc?

This version! It includes all handouts and art in rar files

I'm having trouble downloading the handouts.rar and art.rar. Tried with them as separate downloads, with all the files and just opening them rather than downloading. Each time it says the archive is either unknown or corrupt. The other files all work fine, just the rar files seem corrupt.

Thanks for that. Just an FYI, I got the same errors again with Firefox and Edge on my computer but it seemed to download and open fine in Chrome on my tablet. Not sure what the issue is there. Maybe the DMs Guild platform has issues with those two browsers.

I know content creators dont have a lot of control over what gets made Print on Demand, but what can folks who really want something like that do to get the DMs Guild to consider this for print? Cuz, uh, if I could have this on my shelf I'd buy it no questions asked.

Hi there! Really interested in running this one with a new party, but we've just finished a little introductory adventure in Baldur's Gate. Do you think it'd be possible to swap Neverwinter for Baldur's Gate with a bit of fiddling? Any suggestions on how to make that work?
Customer avatar
JVC P October 20, 2020 1:15 pm UTC
CREATOR
Hi Holly! Neverwinter, Baldur's Gate, and Waterdeep all make an appearance in the adventure! Are you hoping to have the characters based in Baldur's Gate rather than Neverwinter for chapter 1? If I've understood that correctly, it would really be as simple as swapping out Lord Neverember as the patron of the quest for Ulder Ravengard, as he is also a member of the Lord's Alliance. The characters can then travel to Gundarlun from Baldur's Gate - a longer journey than if they started in Neverwinter, but not insurmountable. Consider using the travel montage approach.

If you wanted to simplify it even further, have Ulder Ravengard seek them out and recruit them into the Lord's Alliance to help Neverember, and have a Lord's Alliance wizard teleport the characters to Neverwinter!

Hope this helps :)

Is the final boss supposed to be as like 1 creature or 2 creatures? Zellix'Phor is in control of Slarkrethel and can use his actions as his own. Does Slarkrethel get his own turns or is he merely a vessel?
Customer avatar

One creature, unless Zellix'Phor decides to teleport out of there. ZP has access to Slark's actions, but must use them in place of its own. They both act on the same initiative.

However, if you feel like the final fight needs pumping up, have them act on two different initiative scores, one for ZP, one for Slark. It would be an EXTREMELY potent foe, but would work nicely for a scaled up finale!

Before purchasing I have one simple question, does this campaign need players to start in the 1st level ?
I'm finishing an adventure right now, with a party of four players, all of them in 4th level, would be difficult to fit them in this campaign?
Cheers,

I had the same thoughts, but seeing the creator's reply to Tripp M below; it would be easy to start at Chapter 2; which is intended for level 5.

Although, what I've ended up planning (from a suggestion from one of my players) is having them all create new characters to go through Chapter 1.

After Chapter 1, it looks like they have a choice of different areas to go to; so I plan on having their old and new characters meet up and swap stories; and then the players can decide which one of their characters they wish to continue the rest of the campaign with. Those ones can form a party, and the rest will head off to another location, as a second party (potential backup characters, or NPCs)

This is a great campaign. It's very cool. My group made it to the end of Chapter 1 before we stopped for COVID. Now they want to basically restart the campaign, since no one really remembers a lot of the specifics. They know they love it and want more Call from the Deep.

Any thoughts to re-introduce a group of players back to the campaign?

If they're using the same characters I'd have them play through flashbacks on the crashed ship and wreck of the golden crown - doesn't matter if things go differently this time, just roll with it. Start in one of the cities on the eve of pirate attack.

If they're using different characters, start at chapter 2 with rumours of an adventuring party going missing after visiting the crash, and have the map from the golden crown turn up on Neverwinter's desk by post. The new party is a task force put together by the Lord's Alliance to decypher the map and prevent the pirate attacks.

This one looks sooooo interesting! I've been checking the internet for review and all of them are positive.
Since Shore Of Dreams, I have been a fan of your work.

Only one problem: I would really really love this as a hardcover book. It's way easier for me to manage and devour than using my laptop with a clumsy pdf.
I have already checked local print shops what they can do for me, but prices range from 5x to even 10x the price of the pdf (which I also need to buy as well).
This turns out to be extremely expensive and I cannot justify the purchase.

Is there any other way I can get it printed for a decent price and shipped to western Europe? I absolutely don't mind supporting the creators, but not at those kind of price ranges ;)

Hi Jochen,

I'm still struggling to get it printed myself. The text pages have the text to far to the inside to print it as a hardcover as is according to the printshop I was working with.

I also had to change the cover file as it was not up to spec.

Did you manage to get yours printed somewhere? I'm also in western europe.

Depends what kind of game you want to run! There's a lot of information in the campaign, and Chapter 3 is a sandbox of the Sword Coast and Island Kingdoms. I recommend taking it a session at a time, and only prepping what you need to. Nothing wrong with asking the players in advance what they envision completing next session. Trying to get this to play nice with roll20. Do you happen to have non-grided versions of the maps?
Customer avatar
JVC P July 07, 2020 7:47 am UTC
CREATOR
I'm afraid not - I've been importing the gridded versions into Roll20 for my home game. Normally it's fairly easy to resize the maps to fit the roll20 grid. I'd recommend scaling up the grid to at least 100x100, resizing the map so the grids align, trimming down the excess grid, then reducing the grid opacity to 0 so there's no confusion.

Hope this helps!

In chapter 2, Waterdeep, is it intended that the Conch was taken to Umberlee's Cache, via the Malenti Ilanquor, at the order of Abeline, once she had it in her possession? Sorry if that doesn't make sense, trying to figure out Ilanquor's role in getting it to area U4.

That’s correct. Abeline’s clergy dropped it into the cache, Ilanquor hid it away in area U4 for the coming sahuagin.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
