Drizzt Do’Urden’s Guide to Combat is a resource to help you run the most fun combats you ever have, no matter your DMing style. It is the distillation of knowledge from the masters of the hobby (listed in the credits page) as well as the years of experience held by each of the contributors.

This product isn’t a house rules supplement; it works within the Fifth Edition system. You will however find:

  • Insights on running unforgettable combats, from player engagement to speeding up play (see the table of contents in the preview for the full list).

  • Guidance on running tactically-challenging combats.

  • 18 printer-friendly “Squad” stat blocks for use in mass combat, as well as a guide to creating more.

  • 4 pages of printable tokens for use in grid combat.

Where are the 18 squad stat blocks located? I've checked through the guide in the additional resources and the main .pdf but I haven't found them. I see the resource for creating your own but for me it only has the tables for custom squads, no premade stat blocks.

Thanks

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. They should now be in the statblocks.pdf file within guide_to_combat_resources.zip

Did this used to be called Art of War? I would need a physical copy. Is that in the works?

M.T. Black published a product called "The Art of War for Players," which is unaffiliated with Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide to Combat. Unfortunately, the DMsGuild is currently not supporting creating print versions of products after they've been published, so there are no plans at this time (though normally there would be).

Doesn't even mention R.A. Salvatore in the special thanks.

When I wrote the "special thanks" section, I was thinking about creators who proffer advice for combat. It didn't occur to me at the time. However, the product has been updated to include R.A. Salvatore.

Could you list the paper tokens included, and perhaps even post a low-res preview?

This is very nice, whom did you get for artists in this project, or did you do the cover and art yourself?

The cover artist is Omercan Cirit! The interior art from Dean Spencer and some WotC stock art.

Thanks for this great product! I just bought it and skimmed through, there's a lot of really useful stuff like the environmental effects and swarm stat blocks.

Two small mistakes I spotted: Schrödinger in Schrödinger's Orc is missing an umlaut, and presumably it should be a HORDE of zombies rather than a HOARD of zombies. Also, the swarms say "Medium swarm of 9 Medium humanoids", which should probably be something like "Huge swarm of 9 Medium humanoids" instead.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
