Grandmother Crookbesom's Book of Hags

Hags.

Is there any more perfect monster in the D&D canon?

They’re clever, they’re wicked, and above all they’re social creatures - for all their love of isolation. They’re ageless and malicious, schemers who pull the strings of creatures around them for their own cruel whims. They’re also larger-than-life personalities who make brilliantly memorable NPCs: the kind of antagonists your players will be reluctant to murder.

Whether you’re here for the malevolent or the grotesque; wicked godmothers, canny predators or classic malicious crones, Grandmother Crookbesom’s Book of Hags has something for you. With a diverse gaggle of cackling witches, each with an array of plans from the petty to the momentous, we give you the gift of over 50 interactions to add a hag into your next adventure.

In total, Grandmother Crookbesom's Book gives you...

  • 13 profiles for hags and covens including lore, adventure hooks, and unique abilities
  • 3 new hag types, from the the diminutive Thimble Hags to the monstrous Empress Ehesh
  • Weird Magics & new creature statistics

It’s an excellent deal, dearie, and at such a low, low, price. You should bite our hand off. Don’t let Grandmother think you ungrateful.

I had received a preview copy prior to publication so unfortunately was not able to enter in the review section. None-the-less I'm attaching the review from my blog here:

Grandmother Crookbesom's is a little bit different from the books I usually get from DMsGuild in that rather than being an adventure or compilation of adventures it is a collection of 13 different unique named hags (or covens of hags in some cases) set in different locales with different motivations and histories to be dropped into an existing game or perhaps to have one-shots built around.

As a toolbox for DMs Grandmother Crookbesom's is a fantastic resource setting up a lot of content that can be used in a variety of ways. One of the first hags I started planning to incorporate into my current game is Auntie Bumble, a hag with a confusing and really unique secret that will make my players truly satisfied when they figure her out. I also immediately adjusted a current adventure I'm running to use Cackling Gundred...See more

Slight mistake in the Thimble Hag's entry; the average damage of her claw attack is miscalculated. Brilliant monster though, I will absolutely be putting a Thimble Hag into one of my own games soon. This is just a really amazing book of NPC ideas.

Just a heads up, in the description of La Belle Lynesse's lair you at one point call river spawn "iver spawn"

Also Empress Éhesh's "Mimicry" ability isn't formatted properly.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
