Youtube Review:

"Monster Manual Expanded has plenty that should spark a player's imagination. From enormous mimics to mind flayer assassins to succubi with bardic abilities, there's plenty of monsters to add to a DM's arsenal and turn a good encounter into an instantly memorable one. Best of all, none of the monsters feel overpowered or unbalanced, so DMs can toss these creatures into their campaigns instantly with minimal prep involved." - (

"The creativity and attention to detail that went into this already makes it must have companion to your MM... you should buy this book and watch your player's jaws drop when monsters they thought they knew prove capable of so much more!" - DnD Character Lab (

"Monster Manual Expanded does a fantastic job of lovingly recreating monsters that were sadly missing from 5e... Whether you're looking to populate your homebrew world or just looking to make that 10th playthrough of Lost Mines of Phandelver a little more interesting, Monster Manual Expanded should be one of your go to resources." - Nerdimmersion(

Monster Manual Expanded is a source of content that supplements the Monster Manual.  It aims to provide Dungeon Masters more options and flexibility in designing adventures and dressing up their dungeons with a wider variety of creatures and characters that are based on the Monster Manual.  Finally, it also adds variants that provide a nostalgic and classic feel that DMs experienced with the older editions are probably familiar with.

In total, there are over 470 creature stat blocks in this book at the Dungeon Master's disposal!

Hello, I recently bought this as it sounds and looks pretty good, having more ways to spice of the monsters is really cool, but I came across an issue, I don't know if this is on my side or something with the module. it seems that some of the spells of NPC's aren't working as intended, half/most of the spells work, but a few of them come up with an error in the chat and doesn't appear in the spell list. Text from the error here.

Spell lookup failures: * mage armor, * ray of enfeeblement, * web, * bestow curse, * vampiric touch*, * evard's black tentacles

I've ensured all my modules are enabled, and I have all the spells working on other NPCs/PCs, just with this one. otherwise it has been good so far. thanks.

That is odd. Feel free to email me directly and I’ll take a look. Any SPECIFIC INFO you can provide, even screen shots would help.

Already planning the use of some of these exciting new creatures in this module. :)

I've noticed that a lot of the images are a bit blurry due what I am guessing is due to them being saved in lower quality to make the module and tokens smaller.
Given the choice, I'd rather have clear images and tokens to look at and show my players, at the cost of a bit of memory to accomplish this.
Particularly with FGU just around the corner.

If you have access to the original art in higher quality, would you consider releasing a high definition version of the module?

The art is as it was given to me. It was not scaled.

Ah I see, that makes sense then, it's all good.

Where there is a will there is a way. I've managed to go through about half of the images so far and have found the original ones online for the majority. So before I know it I'll have things set up the way I want it.

Thanks for your work on this module, getting all sorts of ideas looking through it!

This looks like an exciting addition to have! There's a couple of things I'm wondering about.

Does your conversion include the descriptive / lore texts of the monsters in the Other tab for the NPC entries, and in the reference manual entries? Couldn't see it in either of the screenshots.

Also, will you be updating this module as the original author makes fixes and updates to their PDF release?

All text in the PDF is included in the FG mod. Lore where appropriate and descriptions. Updates will be made as any are with the authors changes as always.

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
