CCC-BWM-06 Introduction to Adventuring

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Recent events in the Moonsea have caused Hillsfar to become a booming economy.  This has attracted many new adventurers to the area and unfortunately brought an increase in deaths of overconfident adventurers too.  Bert the Goblin has decided to sponsor an “Introduction to Adventuring” workshop!  Explore Hillsfar and the five factions by participating in any one of five different missions and pick up basic skills while learning about the factions!

Five One-Hour Adventures for Tier 1 Characters. Optimized for APL 1.

The is 5 one hour adventures that don't need to be played in any order. Each adventure is standalone and addresses a different aspect of the basics of D&D and introduces each of the five factions. It also contains an introduction to the "workshop" and an ending to wrap it up. It is an excellent module to introduce people to D&D and to use as intro tables at gaming conventions!

06-01 The Protector: Order of the Gauntlet: Combat & minor use of roleplay to inspire NPCs to help PCs
06-02 The Thief: Zhentarim: Exploration, Navigating Sewers, stealth, using thieves' tools, puzzles
06-03 The Inquisitor: Lord's Alliance: Investigation of crime and combat
06-04 The Steward: Emerald Enclave: Forest exploration, negotiation, and combat if necessary.
06-05 The Helper: Harpers: Exploration and investigation, roleplaying, and minor combat if necessary.

Hi! I know this is an old module but I'd like to ask. Every part has 1 advancement checkpoint award. In the current Adventure League rules, does that translate to one level up per part? If players play to all the part, do they get 5 level up options (waiving any that will take them out of tier 1 of course)?

Yes. Technically if they play all 4 they level from 1 to 5. Though they would only get the reward for 4 hours of play.

Is there a particular reason why none of the mini segments in this adventure awards treasure checkpoints? Given how important they are currently, their omission seems odd.

It's a ruling from the admins. I don't know the specific reason but traditionally CCCs rewards (mainly magic item unlocks) have always been second par to DDALs. Because the 5 part 1-hour don't give out any magic item unlocks I assumed the only way for them to make it "lesser" than DDAL is to remove TCPs from it? You could ask the admins for a reason on the AL Facebook groups I know people have been questioning it in the comment sections there but none have received a reply.

Does the admin ruling state that Convention Created Content rewards need to be less than those of DDALs, or that this particular adventure cannot have TCP?

The latter isn't consistent with the three other CCC adventures of this type that I know of (one has TCP grandfathered in as it has the pre-season 8 reward structure, the other two specifically award 1 TCP for each mini segment). This isn't to say that those adventures (CCC-BMG-MOON-1-1 Moonshae Treasure Hunt, CCC-3MAGS-ONE Vormestrand's Scroll, and CCC-TRI-30 Remnants of a Dream) are doing it correctly or incorrectly, just that your adventure is not consistent with those.

If it's the former, I'll have to do some extra reading and get back with you, as I seem to recall there being a DDAL introduction adventure with an item unlock in it.

Either way, it doesn't seem as though removing TCP from an adventure is intended to me, but I'll do some checking.

well, I'm not sure about the other CCCs but when applying to write this module I was specifically told, if a CCC produces a 5 part 1 hour module, it can not award magic items or TCPs. It's what the admins instructed so not my call. In fact I would wish for it to give out TCP just so bookkeeping can be simpler right now this makes bookkeeping a real pain :/

CCC-BMG-MOON-1-1 and CCC-3MAGS-ONE doesn't seem to follow any specific CCC format so I'm assuming they had some special arrangement.

I haven't seen/read CCC-TRI-30 so I can't comment on that.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
