I bought this in the "Complete Adventures of M.T. Black Vol. II." It's a terrific adventure. There are two changes I recommend however. First, give Sherlock Holmes a better reason than given for not solving the Jack the Ripper killings himself. I had him meet the player characters from his sickbed, with his broken legs in traction. "I was freshly back from investigating Moriarty's schemes abroad when a horse threw me while pursuing him on the heath." And many of the clues are gated behind very difficult investigation checks. DC20 and in one case DC25 is too high a DC for level 1 characters. I lowered the DCs so the players could get the clues. With all the player shenanigans and questionable accents it still took 4 hours to complete. Make those changes and you have an eminently playable one-shot. By the way this was a con game. I advertised for 4 players and got 5 players, so I made the scots barbarian into twin scots barbarians. That might work for your group too. Highly recommended!

Having been a fan of Masque of the Red Death since the 1990s boxed set, I am well versed in "Red Jack," and always thought of it as a great starter adventure. This attempt at recreating it for 5e is unfortunately lacking. Don't get me wrong, it conveys the story line / adventure fairly well, it's just that the module is laden with quite a few typos, and the writing for me was sub-par at best. In truth, I was disappointed with this product. I could be wrong, but it just seemed like the work was hastily thrown together, and the quality suffered for it.

[5/5 stars] Creates a great Gaslight suspenseful crime story but in the framework of a 5E adventure module. Highly recommend. Full review: [ http://tiny.cc/62wi8y ]

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
