Sailboat Racers Sing This Song

The sixth in a new series of fast, approachable heists for Dungeon Masters who want to add a seedy underbelly to Saltmarsh, Waterdeep, or any city of their choice.

Plunge your characters into an underworld of corruption, theft, death, and money, complete with its own rules, lingo, and protocols.

A shadowy figure that calls themselves “Mr. Porter” reaches out to the characters about a job. They clearly have the skills needed for some skullduggery; or, at least Mr. Porter believes they’re desperate enough to try. Once you’re in, there’s no going back, but the reward is worth it…isn’t it?

Everyone needs to cut loose once in a while, and it seems like the upcoming sailskimmer race around Saltmarsh is the perfect opportunity. Mr. Porter, however, has no time for fun and games - there's a new job to be done, and it seems like one of the sailskimmers has something they need. Can you put aside your competitive drive long enough to get paid? Or do you think the race winnings are enough to keep you safe from your employer?

"Sailboat Racers Sing This Song" is a short, one-shot adventure written for characters from levels 3 to 5. It is designed to be played in approximately 1-2 hours, and can be run with limited support from the Monster Manual or the Dungeon Master's Guide.

This product was written to supplement the Ghosts of Saltmarsh product, and can be used with the Waterdeep: Dragon Heist and Dungeon of the Mad Mage storylines.

Does this include mechanics related to actually sailing during the race?

Yes - sort of! This module includes mechanics meant to approximate what is needed to race sailing craft, and those concepts can be expanded upon for more general sailing. That said, we're open to suggestions for improvement!

i bought this and was a bit disappointed to be honest. the race course seems long - i have 6-8 players so it would be 3 or 4 (5 is not out the possibilities either) skimmers each rolling a lot. i also can't get my head around how it comes back to town from a spatial context. also the positioning for melee attacks wouldn't happen as skimmers move ahead of the others in position so how could any be the same position after the start? maybe it's the wording causing some confusion. i'd recommend some play testing with larger party in smaller teams just for time/logistic sense and some options for scaling the course. i really do like the idea though, and am adding this to the salt marsh campaign i'm running.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
