The Artist Commune of Skullport - An Undermountain Encounter

Suggested Price $1.49

Founded on the edges of the shadowy town of Skullport, the Artist’s Commune leads its life under the watchful gaze of Xanathar. Drawn together by various misfortunes and circumstances, these outsider artists have found a place to call home. A strange, but comforting location, where a modron musician, a halfling earth-shaper and an illithid painter can all gather around a campfire after a hard day’s work of pursuing their art.

In the commune, artists are able to work on their projects with relatively little disturbance, be they visual, musical or utterly insane. Still, despite their outcast conditions, with strange eons even the gazes and interests of the noble and powerful can trickle down far enough, and the artists might find themselves in need of noble adventurers, or cutthroat mercenaries.

The Artist's Commune of Skullport is a supplement that can add that touch of outsider charm to your adventures in Skullport or the Undermountain. It would fit in easily with the recent adventures in Waterdeep, or the Dungeons of the Mad Mage. The commune is also flexible enough to be put on the edges of whatever town or village you’d like to embellish with a stroke of artistic weirdness.

  • Eight detailed outsider NPC’s to bring colour into your adventures.
  • Nine adventure ideas centered around artistic pursuits, with potential hours of side-questing
  • Add more weirdness to your adventures with this supplement, with nods to the beloved locations of Underdark and Planescape!
  • Suitable for any level.
  • Experience the sublime interpretation of Xanathar’s own Goldfish 'Sylgar' in contemporary, post-modernist expressionic style. The painting, by Harriet Darja, depicts the beloved pet in its familiar trappings of wealth and power. While the fish itself echoes in the painting, its physical form is shadowed by hints of another to come. More than just a gaudy portrait symbolizing Xanathar’s will and power, this painting asks us 'how should we view our gold and status in a world where we all might be as replacable as a goldfish?'

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
