Monster Loot Vol. 1 – Monster Manual

ADD TO WISHLIST >

I want to loot the beholder!

When brave adventurers face the dangers of the world, they want something to show for it. This supplement provides individual loot for each monster in the Monster Manual, as well as a basic crafting and harvesting system that works well with 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons.

With this supplement, these brave adventurers will be able to craft the hide, teeth, and claws of their enemies into dangerous weapons and equipment that is sure to mark them as legendary heroes of the realm.

Examples of Loot

Basilisk

  • 1d2 Basilisk Eyes. When consumed, you must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or become petrified as you are turned to stone. You remain petrified until freed by the greater restoration spell or similar magic. It can also be used as an additional material component when casting the spell flesh to stone. When used in this way, the target of the spell has disadvantage on their saving throw against the spell’s effects.
  • 1 Vial of Basilisk Gullet Oil. If poured on a Medium or smaller creature that has been petrified by being turned to stone, they are cured of the petrified condition.

Green Hag

  • 1d2 Green Hag Hands. Requires attunement. Can be used as an arcane focus. You know the dancing lights and minor illusion cantrips, but only when you are holding onto the hand. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these cantrips.
  • 1 Green Hag Tongue. When consumed, you can mimic animal sounds and humanoid voices for one hour. A creature that hears the sounds can tell they are imitations with a successful DC 14 Wisdom (Insight) check.
  • 1d4 Vials of Green Hag Blood. Can be used as an additional material component when casting spells that turn something invisible. When used in this way, the duration of the invisibility increases by one minute.

Just purchased, thank you. Lots of food for thought, no pun intended. HA! I was slightly surprised not to find some sort of stats, bonus, rp addendum for PCs or NPCs who were Rangers or Wilderness heavy types. I am thinking of giving those types advantage. I am curious? Would you comment on why you didn't give a reason why or why not you didn't? Thanks!

I didn't want to change any of the core classes with this system. For my own games, I offer the harvesting tools proficiency to characters where it makes sense that they would have it. This depends more on the character's background than their class, as I have had players be pacifist druids, bounty hunter rangers, or pit-fighter barbarians who have never been in the wilderness for more than a few hours at a time.

Of course, you are free to add to the system as you see fit! That is the beauty of 5e. It's very easy to tweak so it fits your own style more.

I use the Monster Loot in my campaign, it really adds flavor to monster loot and gives the players to really opportunities to RP.

Very cool book and glad I purchased it. It would be the greatest tool in my collection if it included gold value of harvested items.

One thing I found curious, for some items made from enemies of various "sizes" like dragons, it seems odd the more cost effective would come from the lower cr version.

I love these, I purchased the Fantasy Grounds versions. Do you have any plans, or would you consider doing something similar for the Kobold Press bestiaries like Tome of Beasts and Creature Codex?

Though I am not opposed, there are a few loopholes to jump through if I'm to make it happen. I'll look into it some more because it seems like multiple people are interested in it happening.

Thanks for checking out the series!

Wow, i just started reading it, and i am amazed already! You did quite a lot of work. I bought your bundle even tho i do only homebrew adventures, so i don't really need baldur's gate etc, but this is so inspiring! I am working on my own bestiary and a sourcebook of my own world, and the way you present your work will help me create the loot for my homebrew races and monsters! Thanks so much :)

Hi, I really like your monster loot bundle, I bought the fantasy ground modified version. I was wondering, if you might consider, to add how much harvested parts such as claws are worth if sold in shops?

Unfortunately, Kobold Press products aren't included in the DMsGuild license. I can only make these sorts of supplements with content made by WotC or by other DMsGuild creators. It's unfortunate, because I really love both Tome of Beasts and Creature Codex.

Anne, can't you make a non-DMsGuild product for other monster books, eg. on DTRPG?

I could, possibly. But I would have to get permission from the creators of those books before I were to publish content for them. To make supplement for 3rd-party books, such as those from Kobold Press, I would have to get permission to create stuff for their IP.

Regardless, my schedule is 110% full for the rest of the year, so I don't see me pursuing it anytime soon. Sorry :(

That was an oversight on my part. The product will be updated soon with all the miscellaneous creatures and NPCs added to the list. Hope it doesn't ruin your enjoyment of the product :(

What a brilliant book! It’s about loot and crafting monster parts, sure, but every page is also full adventure hooks.

NPC alchemists, mages of all stripes, mighty warriors and more can all make use of monster parts for magic items, and this book gives hundreds of examples of what they could desire.

Great example of a product that I didn't know I needed until I saw it.

PS: I thought in 5e it was the "gullet fluids" of the basilisk that reversed petrification.

I can't leave a review here because I have a publishers account. However, I did write a review here: https://templeofthebatfacedgod.home.blog/2019/05/13/review-monster-loot-vol-1/

Long story short, this is a great book worth purchasing.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
