D&D Solo Adventure: The Dread Vault of Tgozur

5e Solo Gamebooks presents The Dread Vault of Tgozur, the first in a series of planned shorter solo adventures, for players who want to squeeze a bit of gaming in whenever the opportunity arises. The Adventurers Wanted! series has been created with the intention of providing rapid fire, and often high-level quests for solo players. Expect more of these to appear alongside our longer quests such as Citadel of the Raven and The Tortured Land.

This solo is a level 10 adventure and should give you about 2-3 hours of challenging playtime. However, as the quest is shorter, the peril is necessarily quite a bit higher, and so the player should be prepared for some lethal encounters. In all likelihood, it will take a couple of play-throughs to defeat, so don't expect an easy stroll through this adventure!

Your PC starts in the village of Woodholme, where they learn of an undead infestation in the tomb of a revered local hero. There is half a page of backstory to give you an excuse to go and kill some bad guys, and then you go and do just that! In the spirit of AD&D, the quests in the Adventurers Wanted series will not concern themselves with complicated adventure hooks. They will be simple, notice-board like quests that solo PCs can pick up between adventures.

There are guidelines for playing with more than one PC, and also for equipping your PCs with magic items.

Do you love d&d? Do you need a side quest to drop-in an existing campaign? Do you not have a group or the time to meet with one? If you answered yes to any one of these, this solo adventure is exactly what you need. The engaging narrative is complemented by challenging and balanced encounters, whilst still providing players with a degree of agency to flexibly complete the adventure in their own way.

David La Boon

The engaging surprises, the well rounded combat, and the quality of the story as a whole add up to make the replay value of this adventure high. Any class/race combo can be used successfully, but death can also come to any race/class combination.

Jason Svedin

I wanted to play my favorite, higher level character to see if he could face a truly deadly challenge, distinctly a notch above the classical, lower level solo adventure. This adventure offered exactly what I was looking for. Are you and your character up for it?

Poutinet Power

So if you are hungry for adventure and don't want to wait for a dungeon master, this is the adventure for you!

Hi! A great, short adventure!
I could not see how the code word was activated - it's not listed under the monster card when you get to that room.
I had to find it by doing a Ctrl+F search for it through the adventure text.
But it's a great, fun, atmospheric adventure that took about 60-90 minutes to play through!
A good way to test out a character build!

How do I balance this for a party of 4?

Well it's a solo adventure so you'll need to have a look at p82 of the DMG and do a little maths. Off the top of my head, make them level 4 and let them buy magic items at the start! But it would be easier for them if there was 5 in the party. Perhaps disallow any rare magic items and add a Level 4 NPC to the mix.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
