One-Stop Statblock Spellcaster NPCs

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Tired of looking up spell after spell when your PCs fight enemy spellcasters? Frustrated with the paucity of spellcaster NPCs in the Monster Manual? Wish you could add more spellcasters to spice up your combat encounters, but reluctant to do so? This resource is for you!

Herein you will find 22 low-level spellcasters that can be dropped seamlessly into any combat encounter. Best of all, these guys all have ONE-STOP STATBLOCKS. That's right: everything you need to run these dastardly wizards is included right there on the page. No more flipping through the Player's Handbook every round looking for spells while your players' eyes glaze over. The exact effects of every spell are condensed and included in the statblock, with attack bonuses and save DCs right there in the text. These spellcasters are LIGHTNING-FAST to run.

Each caster has two or three spells of each level and one innovative new special ability, ensuring that every spellcaster feels unique and memorable for your players without overwhelming you with options and irrelevant minutiae. A wide variety of cantrips, 1st level spells, and 2nd level spells from the Wizard spell list are utilized.

The casters are built like characters of 3rd or 5th level, but they have spell slots like characters of 2nd or 4th level, which brings them better in line with existing monsters in terms of damage and hit points, and ensures that you can throw several of them into an encounter without worrying that they will incinerate your PCs with fireballs. The casters are all either CR 1/2 or CR 2, meaning you can begin using them at level 1, but they remain relevant in large numbers all the way up to level 20.

Note that the spell descriptions ignore trivial Material components. All spells have Verbal and Somatic components unless noted otherwise. The armor class provided assumes that the caster has cast Mage Armor on itself; the caster's armor class without Mage Armor is given in parentheses.

This here is the book for those players that love dat high AC. As a DM it is a great way to create challenging encounters for lower level parties.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
