I'm a little disappointed at the lack of recipes (only 8 total) and that's after the copper update. Furthermore I'm annoyed that not every ingredient that can be harvested has an associated ingredient (specifically milk, but don't have the desire to check for others). An effort was made to ensure milk and eggs had a section of the document dedicated to them, yet only one recipe requires eggs.

Regarding the recipes that were there, I find them to be rather lackluster. I get why rations are meant to be plain, they are to allow the party to survive, not thrive. My issue comes with the beverages and light meals.

Of the beverages, I don't see the need for the Affect section on the single malt or the wine. The third recipe (sweet tea) has little purpose other than allow for a character to harvest twice in a day (given a character spends 8 hours harvesting 40 ft.sq.). I like the fine wine recipe, as it is the only beverage that is beneficial, but to make it would require at least one natural...See more

Thank you for the comment! Perhaps you missed some of the recipes, as there are actually 16. Some of them have the same affect as others, but that doesn't render them non-existent! The recipe book is only a portion of the guide. The cooking system and gathering system add a lot of mechanics to the game. There will likely be an expanded recipe book in the future. Milk and Eggs procurement were added in the Copper Edition, and can be used with the custom recipe template at the end of the recipe book.

Light meals are intended to be used as a way of regaining hit points. It sounds like you prefer the affects of the hearty meals and feasts; each one gives a specific unique effect to the player. For instance The Talking Salad Recipe, which is made with Sentient Avocados provides "INT modifier is +2 for 1 day. Squealing sounds can be heard within 10 feet of the character's stomach" quoted from the book.

The affect section of the alcoholic beverages are more so for the roleplaying...See more

I do have a suggestion: with something as "off center" as cooking, start out with the product being free. Let a bunch of people look at it and get some reviews and scores and suc. listen to feedback. Tune it. Then when it's amazing, look at prices for other things here and put it up for sale at that point.

Thank you for your interest and your advice. The current introductory price is reflective of the amount of time and effort put into the product. At less than $5, I assure you that Goodbarrel's Guide is well worth the money. There are individuals and groups I know who are currently playtesting the guide and I will be tweaking the mechanics and revising/creating new content for future versions of the guide. I also invite anyone who purchases Goodbarrel's Ultimate Guide to Cooking to experiment with the content and provide feedback based on their experience. Thank you for your interest!

I am so sorry, I thought I had already activated previews! They're now available. The cover, table of contents and introduction to cooking (explaining the core mechanics of the cooking process) are all available for preview.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
