Dragon Coast Adventurer's Guide

The Dragon Coast Adventurer's Guide is a guide to the Heartlands. It provides details on Cormyr, the Dalelands, the Dragon Coast, Sembia, and Turmish. As with the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, the accounts given in this guide are told from the perspective of characters living in Faerûn.

This guide also details five new character backgrounds: the Feytouched, the Heir to Adventure, the Hired Muscle, the Urban Explorer, and the Westhavian Noble. Each of these backgrounds corresponds loosely to one of the five regions of the Heartlands.

I'm creating a new campaign in the Dalelands, and want to be as close to canon as possible with the history since 4e. I've pieced together parts of things, but I'm wondering how much of the information here is "accurate" per the description, and how much is user-created? From what I've read, this looks like a great resource though!

How accurate this guide is sort of depends on your perspective. Certainly, I did my best to make sure it didn't directly contradict canon in any way. However, at the same time, most of the post-4e stuff relied on extrapolation. In some cases, this involved making assumptions about how things would change, while in others cases it involved making assumptions about what wouldn't change.

If memory serves, regarding the Dalelands specifically, the following bits of lore were embellishments on my part: the Sword Council ruling Archendale, the formation of Ambrose in Battledale, Lord Cormaeril dying and being replaced by Commander Mornblade in Daggerdale, the high taxes in Deepingdale, much of the lore surrounding the Dusk Lord, rumours of crime and corruption in Harrowdale, the proposed reclamation of Moondale, the anarchy and lawlessness in Scardale, and the attempted fomorian incursion in Shadowdale.

As well as that, there are a couple of details that are of dubious canonicity, depending...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
