Keith & Ruty

Eberron was born in 2002 when Wizards of the Coast launched a worldwide search for a new campaign setting.

Morgrave Miscellany is the much anticipated supplement to Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron  that comes to you by way of its co-authors Keith Baker & Ruty Rutenberg who breath more life and lore into the eponymous campaign setting now released for play with the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons. This 164 page book gives you the information you need to delve deeper into your Eberron story or character. It includes an expansive deep dive of Khorvaire from the Demon Wastes to the coasts of the Lhazaar Principalities, and a plethora of intrigue and noir story hooks in between.

The purpose of this book is to provide you with additional rules and character options that let you delve deeper into the world: new subclasses & races, racial feats, new forms of dragonmarks, and more. It also provides you with the lore you need to build a deeper character and story. While this is presented in a player-focused way, these ideas should inspire DMs, as well as players. Even if no one at your table creates a barbarian or druid character, the information about the Druidic sects of the Eldeen Reaches or the concept of the supersoldier barbarians of House Vadalis could be the seedlings of a story yearning to develop its maturity.

Inside this massive tome of full color art, you get an expansion to the themes and ideas offered in the Player’s HandbookDungeon Master’s Guide and Wayfinder’s Guide to Eberron.

Chapter 1 dives into the Eberron lore and player options that realign the prestige classes of Dungeons & Dragons third edition into the archetypes of fifth edition.
Chapter 2 offers a look into the Eberron’s cultures and background.
Chapter 3 is designed to offer a few resources and optional rules for players and DM’s telling stories that hold true to the classic elements of a hardboiled, high-stakes, pulp noir setting.
Chapter 4 presents some suggestions for hooks and 0-level adventuring in Eberron by way of the Gumshoe Chronicles.

Want to create and publish your own Eberron PDFs?

The Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron can serve as your jumping off point to create your own monsters, adventure modules, and other tabletop content set within Eberron and put it up for sale on the Dungeon Masters Guild.

Is there any news for any sort of update to this to accommodate Rising & Exploring Eberron?

Will this be superceded by the upcoming Exploring Eberron, or will the updated Morgrave Miscellany contain additional material?

What I've heard is that Ruty & team are updating it to be in line with both WotC's Rising from the Last War and Keith's Exploring Eberron.

It's a difficult situation though, since while essentially this is Keith Baker flavour material (and his name is on the product), it's really a Ruty Rutenberg design work, and Keith and Ruty's designs don't necessarily line up perfectly - they've got different visions for the mechanical interpretation for Eberron. This is not a smear against either of them - I genuinely love this supplement (and both of their other materials) and can't wait for the update. It's just a conflict of design.

So Ruty either will need to work around the new takes Keith's put in ExE, or there will be incompatible material. Either way, they were waiting to see how ExE played out before doing anything, since Keith announced ExE so soon after Rising's release.

A question on the Bonecraft armor of the Bone Knight archetype:
"When you do, your Armor Class becomes 10 + your Constitution modifier + your Proficiency bonus."
Does this mean there is simply no Dexterity benefit as in none aka zero?

Sorry to be a bother was wondering if there was any word as to this book getting an update to go with ERftLW. I know with Corona and everything things are probably all up in the air but was just wondering if there was any kind of update we could get?

For the Arbiter form for the druid subclass, what is the armor class? It's not listed at all. When you update the book it'd be a good idea to make an actual stat block similar to what other wild shapes make use of. Also, a clear description of what the Arbiter form looks like would be helpful.

Question Circle of the Arbiter says with Chillbane you are immune to poison, is that poison damage, the poisoned condition just the secondary effects of poison or a combination of the above?

The Greater Mark of Passage in Wayfarer's Guide to Eberron gives Teleportation Circle and Blink as spells once per day.
The Siberys Mark of Passage also gives Teleportation Circle (as its only benefit), and doesn't even upgrade it to twice per day. Given that the other marks get 7th, 8th and even 9th level spells, was this intended to be Teleport, or Gate with a specific limitation?
It seems like there's a discrepancy between the potency of Siberys marks. Some get a low level spell with a minor upgrade, while some marks get incredibly powerful effects (foresight!?). Is it intentional that the Mark of Detection is the strongest mark, or would you change certain abilities to be more relevant? For example, the House Cannith mark's +1 effect would be quite good if usable on already magical equipment, for instance (either once per item, or to the limit of +3), but it's not my goal to simply list them all off.

Hi everyone, Ruty here!

We fully intend to release an updated version now that Eberron Rising has been released. As we must comb the new release and compare Morgrave to the updated Wayfinder's new changes as well, and finally re-run the product through Layouts, etc. This can take some time but we appreciate your patience. We hope to have an updated version to you in January. I wish we were a full time publishing company to expedite this but, alas, our tiny team is working as quickly as we can. We expect to address all those questions, like Nir M's below, during that update.

Thank you for loving our supplement as much as we do. We endeavor to make your wait as short as possible!

Thank for this update and and the upcoming new version coming in 2020. When Eberron: Rising from the Last War I hoped this supplement would remain relevant to the new content. The fact this is being co authored with the creator of Eberron makes this feel like his expanded vision for the setting. So thank you again for all your effort done by yourself and your team

I suspect at this point we are also waiting for Exploring Ebberon.

Is there any way we can help? A forum where inconsistencies are noted? (For example, Changeling Traits were changed, requiring an update to the Chameleon Feat and Aberrant Marks can be taken by any race contradicting Child of Kyber.)

So with the ebberon book out in print are we going to get an update to this? Or is this going to get rolled into the Upcoming Exploring Ebberon book?

I have seen a few people ask similar questions but no answer posted as yet. Love the supplement but was shape of the Arbiter attack damage intended to scale?
Customer avatar
Nir M August 26, 2019 4:26 pm UTC
Hi! Love the book. Just looking for a quick clarification - under Shape of the Arbiter it says you gain a special melee and ranged SPELL attack options and that you add your wisdom modifier to the attack and damage rolls, but since it's a spell attack the wisdom modifier is part of the spell attack modifier anyway. So is the wisdom modifier meant to be added twice to the attack roll or was it simply supposed to say that wisdom was the spellcasting ability for the purpose of these attacks?
(I'm guessing it's the latter but would like to make sure)
Customer avatar
Drew S September 05, 2019 11:07 pm UTC
It's not specifically attached to the Spellcasting feature, so I would guess (as someone with no for-sure knowledge on the matter) that it does need to specify which ability score it's using. In this case, that's Wisdom.

Absolutely love this project! I think the Path of The Extreme Explorer might be my favourite thing, which is impressive given how much I love Keys, Host and Vigilante. Give me more risk-takers! I'm interested to know whether it was intended for the Pact of the Host to overcome the 20-in-Ability-Score cap or not. I feel that it'd be perhaps too powerful if it did ignore the cap, but Specific Trumps General as ever and there's no mention of the cap in the description.

For instance, I would assume that, even if you already had a score of 17 in Strength and a Cha Mod of +5, the Strength Score would become 20, not 22.

Question on the Bonecraft ability for the Bone Knight-

Do you have to spend a spell slot each day to keep up the magical bonuses on the Armor and Weapon?
Customer avatar
July 13, 2019 2:49 am UTC
The way I read the entire ability is that you would need to create a new armor or weapon every day. You could recreate the same item, but the armor or weapon only gets the bonus the first time you create it and it loses the bonus at the end of your next long rest.

The ability could be clearer on this, because I had to talk this through with a player currently planning out their Bone Knight before coming to that.

Question: on page 93, Talenta Totem table's column #5 "Spindlespitter" is a correct? I look at Eberron wiki and ECS(3rd version), but there's no Spindlespitter and there's Swindlespitter. Is this ERRATA? Or are they just different dinosuars?

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
