ALTERNATIVE WATERDEEP: DRAGON HEIST ONE-SHOTS

New adventure hooks for use with Dragon Heist maps.

Brand new adventure hooks for use with the maps included in this bundle. 10 total hooks will give you new and interesting ways to use the maps, or to include as alternate plot hooks in a Dragon Heist campaign!

MAPS FOR YOUR VIRTUAL TABLETOP OR HOME GAME!

This bunde includes maps that will give DMs accurate, usable maps for running Waterdeep: Dragon Heist as well as the alternate adventures mentioned above. Each map comes with a PDF version for printing out for use at your table (100 ppi), and JPG versions for both Roll20 (70 ppi) and Fantasy Grounds (50 ppi).

Additionally, the maps come with separate DM and Player versions* so that you can use the DM version for reference while sharing the player version with your players. Additionally, all versions listed above are included both with and without the grid overlay, giving you flexibility in how you use the maps.

The maps (see below for low-res examples) were created in a simple old-school style that matches the maps in the book itself.

*Not all maps have separate DM and Player versions, such as The Yawning Portal and Trollskull Manor, where there are no DM-only secrets on the map.

I am looking to print these as blueprints for the players to reference. Will the whole map print on a regular 8.5 x 11 sheet?

Yes, this just relates to your print settings. While the resolution on the PDF files is such that it could be printed to-scale for use with miniatures, if you simply have your PDF reader scale the image to a single page when you send to a printer, you should be fine. The only advice I'd give is to exeriment with landscape vs. portrait orientation when printing, which may help increase the image's size - and thus clarity for your players - depending on which map you're printing. Hope that helps!

Great! Thanks! I've been using VTT for most of my campaigns, but I was looking for something easy to print and for them to use. Purchased!

I meant a single poster size sheet 3'x4' or so. Could I take the jpeg or PDF to Kinkos/FedEx for printing?

Ah, sorry for the confusion then. Yes, I've done this with a handful of them, though it will depend on the print size capabilities of the store you're at and the exact size you're looking for. A couple of the largest maps exceeded the size limit at the Kinkos I used when I tried to print them to scale (for use with minis), but most of them were printable on their large-scale printers. Alternatively, a service like VistaPrint might work, though that would be more expensive. Good luck!

Is there a way to print the map as a single large to scale image?
Thanks

Stephen,
Yes, there is, though it will be printed across multiple standard-sized pages. First, make sure you're using the PDF version of the file. The JPGs are for VTTs like Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds, and won't come out at the correct aspect ratio for standard miniatures and such. In Adobe's Acrobat program, when you go to print, you'll want to switch it from "Size" to "Poster" format, and leave the scale at 100%. This should allow it to print to multiple pages at full size.

If you aren't using Adobe, you may have to Google how to do a multi-page print for large PDFs, but most similar programs should have the same option. Hope that helps!

Mona,
Thanks for mentioning this, and sorry for any inconvenience. They show up for me on the DM's Guild listing, but not on DriveThruRPG, so it may have to do with which of those the product was uploaded in. Here's the DM's Guild link, for reference:
https://www.dmsguild.com/product/269867/Adventures--Maps-for-Waterdeep-Dragon-Heist

Let me know if that doesn't work either. I'll look into why they don't cross-post to DriveThru, but it may be out of my control.

Hi there, how do I get it to print like shown in your picture? When I try to print it just wants to print it as one page?

Hi Robert, happy to help. The answer will depend on what program you're using to view and print the file.

What size paper would you recommend printing the maps on?

Thanks for your question! I don't know that there's a best paper size, but they're designed to fit standard miniatures when printed at full size. This will take up multiple pages, of course, but will be usable with any tokens or minis. The ones I've printed for my home game have just been on 8.5x11 inch card stock. Below is a link to a screenshot of Adobe Acrobat when I go to print, showing this process.

Hope that helps, and if I misunderstood, feel free to clarify and I'll do my best to answer. Cheers!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
