CCC-HATMS 02-01 Illithid Activities

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Reports of an Illithid in the area south of Hillsfar have the Emerald Enclave and the Harpers on the trail of a mind flayer. The mind flayer is suspected to be Klondrus Imdree which has been presumed dead for quite sometime but is he? The call has come out for heroes to investigate and see what can be learned by his appearance. This is a 4-Hour adventure for Tier 2 characters and optimized for APL 8

Illithid Activities premiered at Holiday Around the Moonsea in November 2018, and is a prelude adventure to CCC-HATMS02-02 Something Vile This Way Comes & CCC-HATMS02-03 A Vile Wake! by Jeremy Hocchalter which are Tier 3. I of course recommend picking those modules up for your Tier 3 players! Jeremy Hocchalter is an experienced writer and has written many great adventures for our community to enjoy.

I prefer to run AL trilogies because they have better overall stories. I also prefer the players use the same characters to make the story interesting. Your trilogy starts with a tier 2 mod then jumps to tier 3 for the last two. Please consider changing the first mod to tier 3 if possible. This will make it easier for DMs to run your games as a series for adventurers.

Regarding the ritual (page 19-20), is there a prescribed number of rounds after which spell successfully reaches completion?

It seems to me the answer is longer than 1 minute of combat. Thus, it seems Klondram is predestined to leap through the vortex.

Is this an AL legal mod? It sounds really interesting, but I mainly run for AL players.

Yes it is Adventure League approved. It was written and run at the Holiday Around the Moonsea convention in Colorado last Thanksgiving.

Hi, there appears to be a spellbook mentioned at page 12 but no further details on it. Is it meant to be a spellbook that wizard PCs can scribe from?

For Adventure League play the spell book isn't useable. For home play outside of the Adventure League it could be whatever the DM desires.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
