CCC-FC3-03 Tales of Estirwald: The Fun House

“Randel Malark Ambledragon was a magician of impressive renown. Rumour has it that before he became a travelling magician, he was a VERY successful adventurer. He settled down in Estirwald until one day he and his mansion simply disappeared. Now his mansion is back and rumours are flying all over the place. Are you courageous, daring, and clever enough to find out the truth?”

Part 3 of 3 of Tales of Estirwald.

This is a 4 hour Tier 3 adventure balanced for 5 level 13 characters with scaling in place depending on the party. For those players and DM’s looking for a combat challenge, this adventure includes additional adjustments to account for those well equipped and overly creative parties.

This is a stand-alone adventure that takes place in the same location and setting as Tales of Estirwald Parts 1 & 2, although at a higher tier of play.

Tales of Estirwald premiered at Forest City Comicon 2018.

I have had the opportunity to play this module, and now have also run it.
I picked it to run as a one shot for some friends since a lot of people enjoy playing at higher levels.
It is very fun to play and to run. I find that it has a very good mix of role play, problem solving and combat.
It is very well balanced and is very well thought out. the trap style rooms leave a lot of openess and are very quirky.
take some time and have some fun with your players and they will have a great time.
I loved playing this module and had even more fun running it.
I look forward to more from these authors.

Tales of Estirwald: The Fun House

In Part 1, the party enters the village of Estirwald and finds it in chaos as people discuss and debate the rumors regarding the reappearance of Ambledragon’s mansion.

In Part 2, the party travels to Ambledragon’s mansion and attempt to gain access to it. Players that try breaking in rather than knocking on the door are curse with sparkly purple hands.

Part 3 lets the players navigate up to five different challenges within Ambledragon’s mansion to ultimately try and meet him. These challenges involve a mixture of combat, exploration and role playing.

In Part 4, the party meets with Ambledragon and faces his final challenge. It is a battle against three high level casters. A champion can be thrown in for additional muscle.

Depending on how the party does, they experience one of two endings for the module. Please review this section carefully before running the module.

I can't write a review, because I only played this. There is nothing "fun" about an encounter with 20+ creatures that can permanently destroy magic items. The relative CR and bonuses are not relevant, because the high number of attacks and saves makes it almost a certainty that somebody will lose out. With how difficult magic defenses are to come by in S8, do not run this module unless you're interested in pissing off players.

"Additionally, all characters find that any lost magic items from Part 2 or 3 are back. Consumable magic items are still expended and gone."

I would asusme this would also mean items that are degraded but not lost.

Hi Timothy, I am one of the co authors of this module. The encounter you speak of does have ways to avoid it being combat. In fact, combat only happens under very specific circumstances. If you avoid that circumstance and resolve the encounter other ways there is actually a story award that goes with it!
Also, as Tony mentioned below, at the end it is made very clear to the DM that all destroyed or degraded magic items are returned whole and fully functional. If you DM did not mention that to you then I would suggest contacting them about it and informing the other players in your group. I hope this helps!

Hi Tony, the intent is that all magic items come back in perfect working order. Any that are degraded or destroyed are restored to 100% functionality. I will make an edit and upload a revised copy to make this very clear. I was already working on a revision that added a GP value to certain encounters as well.

Good Evening...Do you by any chance know when the first part will be available? Although, I already purchased the other 2, it's always nice to have the entire adventures.

Hey, thanks for the heads up! I am working to rectify that now. It is an AL legal module in case you were wondering.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
