Totem of the Lion - New Option for Path of the Totem Warrior Barbarians

"It's well crafted, unique, flavorful and balanced. We had a blast at our table... If this was a movie, it would win 3 Oscars... Great stuff at a great price. Get it. Make the leap!" Praise for sister title Totem of the Leopard

What is Totem of the Lion?

The Totem of the Lion is a new spirit animal option for Path of the Totem Warrior Barbarians, complementing those in the Player's Handbook (bear, eagle, wolf) and the Sword Coast Adventurer's guide (elk, tiger).

This powerful new path harnesses the majesty and might of the lion to give your barbarian the edge in battle.

What does the product include?

  • New class abilities. New Totem Spirit (Lion's Roar), Aspect of the Beast (King of the Pride) and Totemic Attunement (Defender of the Pride) abilities for lion totem warriors.

  • Totemic variant rules for desert lion spirit animals.

  • Totem shape. New ritual-dependent, optional rule for all Path of the Totem Warrior barbarians.

  • Totem traits. A list of lion-like character traits to help inspire roleplaying.

  • Totem feats. Eight new totem-specific feats available to customise your lion powers (Deadly Predator, Eye of the Hunter, Fast Claws, Feline Evasion, Lion Heart, Lion's Might, Razor Reflexes, Roar of the True King).

  • Barbaric magic items. Five new thematic magic items.

  • Animal knowledge. Facts and figures about lions to inspire your interpretation of this totem path.

  • Lion stat block. To be used for Totem Shape optional rule.

  • Original cover art by Brian Brinlee.

This supplement was checked for mechanical and balance issues by three additional consultant DMs. The concept was to bring a viable new option to the Path of the Totem Warrior, with plenty of flavour, without overshadowing the options already presented in the Player's Handbook.

This product is awesome, loads of flavor and balanced.

I was given a copy for use/test in our gaming table, along with the Totem of the Leopard, and as a DM I can say it adds a lot to the Barbarian class, especially when it comes to inspire the players to create interesting and flavorful characters.

I really liked the feats, on average, they seem more useful and powerful than the ones in the manual which is good (the ones in the players manual are a bit lackluster, tho I guess they are more a template for players to get inspiration). They are very flavorful and I feel like they not only customize a character but also inspire to find a way to roleplay it, which is really what I look for in such products.

The rest of the supplement goes in the same line of adding powers and abilities that enrich the character and give you ideas on how to play it. Balance is not an issue here, I'm quite happy letting my players use anything from it.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
