The Village Forgotten By Time - A Level 4 Adventure

Suggested Price $2.00

Deep in an ancient forest that few where few dare to travel lies the village of Kamourat.

Two thousand years ago, cultists of Bhaal, the god of murder, were driven away from civilization and started their own society away from everyone else. Their culture is centered around worship involving ritual sacrifice and cannibalism.

Of course, your players won't know this. On the surface they will seem friendly and curious about these adventurers in their midst. Will the party discover the secret of Kamourat before it's too late or will the be the next in a long line of unfortunate travelers who have fallen prey to this grisly death cult?

About the Adventure

The Village Forgotten by Time is a 5-10 hour adventure for 4th Level players.

There is no by-the-book way for players to complete this adventure so it could be shorter or much longer. It's roleplay heavy and extremely open ended. The module outlines several possible climaxes and endings, but depending on the party this adventure could take so many different forms.

Your purchase comes with the full color version seen in the preview, a printer-friendly copy and a printout map of Kamourat.

The color version was created using my new Perfect Parchment texture pack which you can buy here on DMsGuild for $1.50 or get a sample pack for FREE!

**Spoilers below**

The language barrier was a horrible idea, resolved horribly. A single Intelligence-based check at the beginning determines whether a Face kind of character (with CHA already a priority, with DEX for AC and CON for HP is undumpable, so with relatively low INT) can roleplay at all. If they fail, they need to speak through another character who might have another agenda. In our game, it was so painstaking for me to translate everything through my character, it bogged down the roleplay and the gameplay.

In terms of narrative, there's no reason why anyone wouldn't be dubious of the village. People's familiarity with horror/fantasy tropes and the very nature of an adventure requiring some tension drives people to really push for what is wrong with the village. Also, two of the four adventure hooks are not hooks at all. Hooks should hook me, the player, into the story. Make me interested in what happens in the village. Those "hooks" get my character to where the...See more

Ran this for 3 lvl 4 characters, though I did modify it slightly. It went ok, but the ending was kinda anti-climatic. I also found them very suspicious of the entire village early on, to the point that they were NOT going to stay the night by any means.

It's hard to know how a particular party will react to any given situation. My players were very suspicious from the get-go and stayed the night, though they weren't asleep. Their plan was to help Mateo and his wife escape and then storm the temple. It worked out really well for them. Sorry that it was a little anti-climactic for you, but I hope your party still had fun!

The adventure is designed for 4th level players, but with some tweaking, I'm sure you could make it work for a level 1 party. Many of the named NPCs in the village have CRs that are too high for a level 1 party to face, but most of them could be replaced by the stats of some of the NPCs from the Monster Manual to decrease the challenge.

There are some encounters with a high number of enemies that would need to be scaled back too.

If you don't want to do all that work, I have another adventure designed for level 1 players called Fog Over Blackpool (https://www.dmsguild.com/product/219888/Fog-Over-Blackpool--A-Level-1-Adventure--Starter-Village). It's a vampire-centric mystery story that will take 3 or 4 sessions to play and will likely take your players all the way up to level 3. After that, it would be much easier to take them to The Village Forgotten by Time!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
